Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and Bajaj General Insurance announced a memorandum of understanding on 6 August 2026 to explore a commercial-insurance partnership in India. The proposed arrangement would combine Bajaj General’s local presence with Swiss Re’s commercial-insurance expertise and international programs capabilities. It is not described as a reinsurance deal, and the companies’ announcement makes definitive agreements and applicable regulatory requirements conditions of the arrangement.

What the proposed partnership would provide

The companies say they intend to develop structured insurance solutions for businesses in India, drawing on underwriting expertise in areas they identify as important to economic growth. Their stated focus includes high-tech and manufacturing. The releases do not specify a definitive list of insured risks, policy terms, premiums, or coverage limits.

The plan also includes international insurance programs for Indian companies operating abroad. Bajaj General’s announcement specifically names Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ International Programs platform. Swiss Re describes the intended support as extending to Indian companies expanding internationally and global clients with operations in India.

Is the partnership already operational?

The 6 August announcements describe a memorandum of understanding to explore the arrangement, subject to definitive agreements and applicable regulatory requirements. They do not give a launch date or confirm completion of those steps.

A 30 September 2026 Times of India report later described the companies as having joined hands and reported multinational programs covering operations in more than 150 countries. That country count is the newspaper’s report, not a figure in the companies’ original releases. The available announcements and reporting do not establish the precise implementation stage or whether the reported programs are available to every eligible customer.

Why the companies say the arrangement makes sense

The proposed model pairs Bajaj General’s Indian presence with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ commercial-insurance capabilities and international programs platform. Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is Swiss Re Group’s commercial-insurance arm; Bajaj General describes itself as an Indian private general insurer and a subsidiary of Bajaj Finserv.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions CEO Ivan Gonzalez said, “Multinational corporations increasingly expect insurers to combine deep local market expertise with global capabilities and seamless international execution.” This is the company’s explanation of the strategy, not evidence of specific customer outcomes. Bajaj General MD and CEO Dr Tapan Singhel also emphasized local knowledge and international capabilities in the company’s announcement.

Company-reported scale figures

Bajaj General’s 6 August 2026 announcement provides background figures for the companies. These are company-reported figures, not independently verified estimates:

  • Swiss Re Group was founded in 1863 and, according to Bajaj General, has around 70 offices globally.
  • Bajaj General was established in 2001 and, according to its announcement, has a presence in nearly 1,500 towns and cities in India.

The announcements do not provide a standalone market-size estimate for the proposed partnership.

What businesses should verify before relying on the offering

Because the announcements do not set out customer-facing policy details, a business considering a relevant insurance program should confirm the actual availability and terms directly with the insurer or broker. In particular, ask:

  • Whether the partnership and the relevant product are operational for the business’s location and risk.
  • Which risks, territories, entities, and activities the policy covers, and what exclusions, limits, and deductibles apply.
  • Whether a multinational program can coordinate local policies and how claims are handled in each country.
  • Who underwrites and services the policy, and what regulatory approvals and contractual arrangements apply.
