A Surface Laptop prototype with Intel’s Core Ultra 7 268V Lunar Lake chip was reportedly listed on China’s Goofish marketplace in October 2024. The listing was later removed, and it was not a Microsoft announcement. Reports could not confirm whether the machine was a Surface Laptop 7 variant or a newer model. Later coverage linked Intel Lunar Lake Surface Laptop 7 configurations to Microsoft’s business-focused lineup, but that does not establish the photographed prototype’s final identity or specifications.
What was reportedly spotted on Goofish?
On October 16, 2024, MobileSyrup reported that Windows Central had found a listing for a purported Surface Laptop prototype on the Chinese second-hand marketplace Goofish. The listing was removed. Images reportedly showed a laptop resembling the then-recently redesigned Surface Laptop 7, which was sold with Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors. The reported Intel processor was the Core Ultra 7 268V, part of Intel’s Lunar Lake generation. MobileSyrup’s report said an engraving reading “prototype – not for sale” suggested the device was a prototype, but its precise model was unclear.
The listing reportedly floated a possible 2025 release. That was a seller or listing claim, not an official Microsoft launch date.

TechSpot attributed the following configuration details to the removed Goofish listing. They are unverified seller claims, not Microsoft-announced retail specifications.

| Reported detail | What it means | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Intel Core Ultra 7 268V | Lunar Lake processor | Reported by the seller; the prototype’s final retail identity was not established. |
| Eight-core processor and Arc 140V integrated graphics | Additional processor and graphics details | Claims attributed to the removed listing by TechSpot. |
| 32 GB memory and 1 TB SSD | Reported configuration | Seller-attributed figures, not verified Microsoft specifications. |
| About $2,500 | Price estimate associated with the listing | Not a confirmed retail price; TechSpot said the listing offered the unit for less and that its minimum price was unclear. |
| Display details | Screen size and other display specifications | Unclear in the listing, according to TechSpot. |
TechSpot’s report said the machine might have been a Surface Laptop 7 or a possible Laptop 8. With the listing gone and no confirmed model number, the images and seller-provided details do not settle that question.
Was there an Intel Surface Laptop 7?
Later reporting provides context beyond the original listing. On May 4, 2025, Tom’s Hardware reported that Intel Lunar Lake variants followed the initially Snapdragon-powered Surface Laptop 7 line and were aimed at business users. That supports the existence of Intel Lunar Lake Surface Laptop 7 variants in later coverage; it does not prove that the Goofish prototype was the exact same final configuration. Tom’s Hardware’s report describes that business-focused context.

- With 16 GB of memory, runs as many programs as you want without losing the execution
- The 13.5" 2256 x 1504 screen provides a great movie watching experience
- 512 GB SSD is enough to store your essential documents and files, favorite songs, movies and pictures
- 8 Hours battery run time helps you stay unwired and work longer non-stop
So, if the question is whether Intel Lunar Lake appeared in Surface Laptop reporting, yes. If it is whether the 2024 listing definitively showed a particular retail Surface Laptop 7 SKU, the available evidence does not establish that.

How does the prototype differ from Microsoft’s current Intel models?
Microsoft’s Surface for Business page, accessed October 4, 2026, lists 13.8-inch and 15-inch Intel Surface Laptop for Business configurations with Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The page gives a US starting price of $2,299.99, lists two USB-C ports with USB4/Thunderbolt 4, and gives a listed weight of 2.97 lb. These are details for the current Series 3 business line, not specifications for the 2024 Lunar Lake prototype. See Microsoft’s current Surface Laptop for Business page.

What should a buyer take from the sighting?
- Do not treat the old listing as a product announcement. It was a removed marketplace listing reported by technology outlets.
- Separate the generations. The Core Ultra 7 268V claim concerned a Lunar Lake prototype; Microsoft’s current listed Intel business models use Core Ultra Series 3.
- Check software and peripherals for the actual device. Intel x86 may be relevant as an alternative to Snapdragon Arm, but compatibility depends on the applications, devices, and management tools you need. Confirm support for your specific setup rather than assuming every compatibility issue is resolved.
- Verify the exact SKU before comparing price or buying. The approximately $2,500 figure came from the seller listing, not an official retail price. Check current regional availability and specifications for the specific model you are considering.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
