Super Mario Bros. Wonder has been demonstrated running on Windows without an emulator, but that does not mean it is coming to PC or is available to download. Reports published in October 2026 describe an unofficial project, not a Nintendo PC edition. At Notebookcheck’s October 5 publication, its repository was still private and a public release was only planned. The sources cited here contain no direct statement from Nintendo about the project, so claims that the company is unhappy about it are speculation.
Is Super Mario Bros. Wonder coming to PC?
Nintendo’s official developer interview identifies Super Mario Bros. Wonder as a Nintendo Switch game, not a PC release: Nintendo’s interview with the development team. The PC effort described in October 2026 coverage is unofficial. Neither report establishes that Nintendo announced or supports a PC edition.

That distinction matters: a demonstration of a game running on Windows is evidence of a technical project, not a commercial release, Nintendo endorsement, or a promise that the game will be released for PC.

Notebookcheck’s October 5, 2026 report describes developer Belmante demonstrating the game on a Windows laptop without an emulator. According to the report, the approach recompiles game code into C++ ahead of runtime, while a graphics translation layer maps Nintendo’s NVN graphics work to Vulkan. Notebookcheck also describes an ASTC texture decoder and cache and multithreading measures intended to reduce stutter. DSOGaming’s October 1 account similarly describes native PC code and custom NVN-to-Vulkan graphics handling.

These are technical details reported by those outlets and attributed in part to the developer; they are not an independent verification of the project’s implementation. “Without emulation” describes the reported method, but it does not make the project an official PC port.
Is the PC project available to download?
The reports do not establish a public download. DSOGaming reported on October 1, 2026, that there was no release estimate. Notebookcheck said on October 5 that the repository remained private while Belmante planned a public release. A plan reported at that date is not confirmation that the project has since become available; check for a current announcement before relying on any download claim.
Accordingly, there is no supported basis in these reports for saying readers can download or play this PC project now. They also do not establish that the game itself is open source or that the project is authorized by Nintendo.
How well did the reported Windows demonstration run?
Notebookcheck said the demonstration ran at roughly 60 FPS on an RTX 3050 laptop, while showing minor graphical glitches and occasional frame-rate drops. That is one reported setup, not a benchmark across PCs or a minimum-spec recommendation. It does not show how the project would perform on other graphics hardware or in a publicly released build.

What Nintendo has said—and what remains unknown
Nintendo’s October 17, 2023 developer interview names Takashi Tezuka as producer and Shiro Mouri as director. Mouri described the game’s central surprise mechanic: “Whenever you collect the new item, the Wonder Flower, the course and its gameplay transform dramatically, and a variety of ‘wonders’ occur that would’ve been unimaginable in previous titles in the series.” The interview is about the Switch game and its development, not the later PC project.
The cited coverage does not establish whether Nintendo knows about the project or how it views it. There is no substantiated basis here to say Nintendo is angry, unhappy, or preparing legal action.
What to do if you want to play Super Mario Bros. Wonder
The official platform identified by Nintendo is Switch. Getting the official Switch game does not provide access to the unofficial Windows project, and the reports do not establish a public PC download. If your decision depends on the PC project’s availability, verify its status through a current, credible announcement rather than treating the October 2026 reports as proof of a release.
