Sundar Pichai is identified as CEO of both Alphabet and Google in the company’s February 4, 2026, Q4 2025 earnings-call transcript. That leadership link gives Chromebook readers a reason to pay attention, but it does not establish that his role has improved Chromebooks or guarantees more investment in them. The available company records confirm the roles and place Chromebooks in Google’s hardware portfolio; they do not show what changed for users.
Is Sundar Pichai CEO of both Alphabet and Google?
Alphabet’s Q4 2025 earnings-call transcript, dated February 4, 2026, labels him “Sundar Pichai, CEO, Alphabet and Google.” That is a dated company attribution, not a guarantee that the titles will remain unchanged indefinitely.
Alphabet is the parent company; Google is its largest business. Pichai’s dual title therefore places him at the top of both the parent organization and the company that develops ChromeOS and Chromebooks.

Pichai became Google CEO in 2015. In an August 2015 founders’ letter introducing Alphabet’s planned structure, then-Alphabet CEO and Google co-founder Larry Page wrote: “And it is clear to us and our board that it is time for Sundar to be CEO of Google.” Alphabet’s 2016 proxy statement records Pichai as Google CEO as of October 2, 2015.

The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
The distinction matters: his Google appointment dates to 2015, while the later transcript identifies him as CEO of both Google and Alphabet.
Why does Alphabet’s leadership matter to Chromebook users?
Chromebooks are part of Google’s product world, so decisions about priorities, resources, and long-term software support within Google can matter to their future. Alphabet’s January 28, 2016, explanation of its reporting segments included Chromebooks among the hardware products sold by Google. That establishes a corporate connection, but it describes the company’s reporting structure at that time—not a current product inventory or a promise about future strategy.

Leadership alone does not tell a buyer whether a Chromebook will receive better updates, whether more models will be released, or whether performance and value will improve. Those outcomes require evidence about product decisions and user experience, not just an executive title.

Is Pichai’s leadership great news for Chromebooks?
It is reasonable for Chromebook users to see Pichai’s leadership as relevant: the person leading Google also leads its parent company, and Chromebooks have been identified as part of Google’s hardware business. But the company records cited here do not demonstrate that Pichai’s leadership caused greater Chromebook investment, better products, improved market share, or better outcomes for owners.

- Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Silver
So the headline’s optimism is a possibility, not a proven result. To judge whether leadership is translating into good news for users, look for concrete, dated evidence such as changes to ChromeOS support policies, new hardware partnerships, sustained product investment, or measured improvements in availability and user experience. The facts established here do not settle that assessment.

Pichai’s dual role provides context about who leads Google and Alphabet; it is not, by itself, a buying signal. A buyer should compare the specific Chromebook’s capabilities, support terms, price, and suitability for their needs rather than infer product quality or longevity from the CEO’s title. The cited Alphabet segment announcement confirms Chromebooks were included in Google’s hardware category in 2016, but it does not endorse any particular model.
