The Sunbeam Torino PU8000 is a discontinued semi-automatic espresso machine sold with a separate grinder. Its listed specifications and feature set may help you judge whether a remaining unit suits your needs, but they do not establish how well it performs in a cup. Because stock is no longer assured, the condition, included accessories, return terms and local service options matter as much as the machine’s advertised features.
What the Sunbeam Torino PU8000 is
CHOICE classifies the PU8000 as a semi-automatic espresso machine and marks it discontinued. The set includes a separate grinder, so it combines espresso preparation and grinding rather than being a machine with a built-in grinder. CHOICE’s page lists a price of $2,199, but this is a recorded page price, not a current offer or indication that the model remains in stock. CHOICE’s PU8000 listing is the source for these product-page details.
Listed specifications and package contents
The figures below are specifications published by CHOICE, not independently verified performance results. Its listed one-year warranty should not be taken as confirmation that a used or clearance unit is still eligible for coverage.

Controls, heating and included grinder
Appliances Online describes two thermoblocks for brew-temperature stability and a third for steam. It lists one-touch one- or two-shot buttons as well as a manual extraction arm with a shot clock. These describe the advertised controls and heating design; they are not independent evidence of temperature stability or shot quality.
The included grinder is described by Appliances Online as belt-driven, with conical burrs and Tap & Go dosing directly into the filter basket. That makes the set a potentially convenient option for someone who wants the grinder bundled with the machine. The description does not establish grind consistency, adjustment range or results with particular beans. See the Appliances Online PU8000 description for the retailer’s feature claims.

What the available performance evidence can—and cannot—tell you
CHOICE’s accessible listing does not reveal its Expert Rating, taste, ease-of-use, milk-frothing or temperature-consistency scores, or measured timing results. Those results are behind member access, so they cannot be reported here. The listed 15 bar pressure and triple-thermoblock design are specifications, not substitutes for test scores.

How to assess a discontinued PU8000 before buying
First establish whether the listing is for new old stock, a refurbished machine or a used unit. Ask the seller to confirm the unit’s condition, what is included and what return terms apply. For a used machine, request its service history and inspect both the espresso machine and grinder rather than assuming that a complete-looking set is fully functional.
- Compare the actual asking price with the unit’s age, condition and included accessories; CHOICE’s $2,199 figure is not a current price guide.
- Confirm that the group handle, four listed filter baskets, tamp, cleaning disc, frothing jug and grinder are present if they matter to you.
- Ask whether the machine and grinder have been used, repaired or refurbished, and whether the seller accepts returns if a fault appears.
- Check for local parts and service support before committing. Sunbeam Australia provides a service-agent directory, but the directory does not establish that every PU8000 part remains available.
- Consider the listed 48 × 28 × 43 cm footprint and 19.1 kg weight when planning bench space and moving the machine.
The model-specific Sunbeam Torino user guide covers operation, grinder adjustment, cleaning and recalibration. It also notes that bean quality, freshness and roast affect the flavour of the brew. Following the manual is a sensible starting point, but it cannot guarantee a particular result from a machine whose condition and setup vary.

How to compare it with a current espresso machine
A fair comparison should use the price and condition of the actual PU8000 listing, not its historical page price. Then compare practical ownership factors rather than treating a bundled grinder or listed pump pressure as proof of better coffee.

| Comparison point | What to check |
|---|---|
| Cost and condition | Current asking price; new old stock, refurbished or used status; return terms and warranty eligibility. |
| Size and handling | Available bench space and whether the PU8000’s listed 48 × 28 × 43 cm dimensions and 19.1 kg weight suit it. |
| Grinding | Whether a grinder is included, how it adjusts and doses, and whether separate replacement or service is practical. |
| Workflow | Whether you want its advertised one-touch shot buttons and manual extraction arm, or a different balance of manual control and programmed operation. |
| Support | Local service options and confirmed parts access for the specific model. |
| Evidence | Distinguish independent test results from manufacturer or retailer feature descriptions and owner anecdotes. |
The cited material does not establish a head-to-head test of the PU8000 against any current machine. Compare claims and evidence on equal terms rather than assuming the discontinued model is equivalent to a newer alternative.
