The Sunbeam Café Series EM7100 has a dedicated capsule system, but CHOICE’s public review page does not disclose its capsule taste score, Expert Rating, or other capsule-test results; those fields are members-only. The public information does establish how the supplied adapters and two capsule pour settings work, and CHOICE labels the machine discontinued.
What do the EM7100 capsule-mode results show?
CHOICE’s public listing identifies the product and shows its specifications, but its Expert Rating and capsule-related taste, ease-of-use, milk-frothing, and coffee-temperature consistency scores are restricted to members. No publicly accessible numerical capsule result or ranking is established by that page, so it is not possible to report whether CHOICE rated its capsule coffee well or poorly. Which capsules fit the Sunbeam EM7100?
The machine uses a separate Multi-Capsule group handle with a capsule-specific adaptor base and top. CHOICE lists holders for Nespresso, Lavazza Mio, and Caffitaly in the box. Sunbeam’s manual identifies the black adaptor as the Nespresso option and names Nespresso, Caffitaly, and Lavazza A Modo Mio formats. This supports compatibility with capsules that match the supplied adapters; it does not establish universal capsule compatibility.

Sunbeam also says the capsule trademark owners are not connected with the company and have not endorsed the machine or its accessories. Format compatibility should therefore not be read as brand approval.

How to use capsule mode
- Choose the capsule adaptor base that matches the capsule format, then fit the matching top. The base and top must be the same colour.
- Pierce the capsule as directed before placing it in the capsule handle. The manual warns that an unpierced capsule will prevent the machine from pouring.
- Insert the assembled capsule handle into the machine and use the Capsule button. Sunbeam recommends that button for all capsules.
- Press Capsule once for the standard capsule pour, described as about 30 ml (and approximately 30–40 ml depending on the capsule).
- For capsules designed for a long extraction, press Capsule twice within 0.5 seconds to select the approximately 110 ml long pour.
The 1 CUP and 2 CUP buttons are for ground coffee, not capsules. Sunbeam warns that using the long setting with standard capsules can produce weak, bitter coffee. The operating instructions are in Sunbeam’s EM7100 instruction booklet.
What else is documented about the machine?
CHOICE lists the EM7100 as a semi-automatic machine with a 3 L reservoir, twin thermoblock heating, stated pump pressure of 15 bar, dimensions of 35 × 34 × 38 cm, weight of 10.1 kg, and a one-year warranty. It lists the model as discontinued and displays a price of $999. That is a page listing, not confirmation of current stock or a price available to buy at.

The listed box contents include a ground-coffee group handle and baskets as well as the capsule handle and three capsule holders, plus a tamper, cleaning disc, milk jug, and documentation. Sunbeam’s brochure describes the EM7100 as supporting beans and capsules, with a 58 mm group head and simultaneous milk texturing and espresso extraction. Verdict
The EM7100’s documented capsule setup is specific and straightforward in principle: use the separate handle and matching adapter, choose the Capsule control, and reserve the long pour for capsules made for that extraction. The public CHOICE page does not provide the capsule-mode scores needed to judge its tested taste or rank it, while its discontinued label makes the displayed price unsuitable as a current buying quote.
