The Sunbeam Café Crema II EM4820 is a discontinued manual espresso machine with a thermoblock heater, a 2.1 L removable water reservoir and a stated 15-bar pump specification. Published specifications and the owner’s manual help explain what it offers, but they do not establish how well it makes espresso: CHOICE’s surfaced product page keeps test results for members, and no public scores are available there. Treat this as a reference for the model and its ownership, not as a current-stock or hands-on performance verdict.
What the EM4820 is—and what this review can establish
CHOICE identifies the Café Crema II EM4820 as a manual espresso machine and lists it as discontinued. Its available public profile documents specifications and package contents; it does not provide public test scores. Accordingly, the figures below are listed product details, not independently measured results, and they cannot tell you the machine’s espresso quality, temperature stability or consistency.
The stated 15 bar is the pump-pressure specification. That number alone does not demonstrate the pressure at the coffee puck or predict the quality of a shot. The available public information does not establish measured extraction performance.

| Specification | Published detail |
|---|---|
| Machine type | Manual |
| Heating system | Thermoblock |
| Water reservoir | 2.1 L, removable |
| Pump pressure | 15 bar stated specification |

These are CHOICE’s published profile details, accessed in 2026, rather than measurements made for this article. A 2.1 L reservoir is a useful capacity figure when comparing machines, while the dimensions and 6 kg weight help estimate counter space and handling; none of these specifications establishes brewing results.
#1 Best Overall
- DIRECT LEVER MANUAL ESPRESSO MACHINE - The Flair 49 PRO is an all manual, lever espresso machine, meaning that you are in control of your espresso extraction. All the force you put onto the lever is directly translated into your coffee making it easy to brew espresso to your exact tastes.
- 49MM PORTAFILTER SYSTEM - A 49mm portafilter system is deeper and more narrow that a traditional 58mm system, meaning that dial-in is more forgiving with larger grind sizes, and your espresso can have a more full body and mouthfeel, due to the increased contact time when brewing.
- NO PLASTICS IN THE BREW PATH - The 49 PRO has been designed with a stainless steel cylinder, valve plunger and stem, meaning that no plastic touches your brew water when making espresso. Brew pure espresso, from kettle to cup.
- PRESSURE GAUGE FOR 9BAR BREWING - Every Flair 49 PRO features an integrated pressure gauge with a custom “Espresso” zone between 5-9BAR, exactly that needed for brewing cafe-quality espresso at home. Choose any pressure and flow profile you want, you’re in full control.
- SMALL FOOTPRINT FOR ANY KITCHEN - The Flair 49 PRO doesn’t take up space like semi-automatic machines, and with a footprint not much bigger than a foot long by eight inches wide, easily fits onto any counter in your kitchen or office.
What comes with the machine
CHOICE lists the machine, group handle, one- and two-cup dual-wall filters, coffee tamp, measuring spoon, milk-frothing jug and literature as package contents. For a used machine, check what is actually included: older units may be missing accessories, and listings for legacy products can describe different bundles. Do not assume every advertised accessory accompanies the unit you are buying.
Using and maintaining the EM4820
The model’s instruction booklet is the appropriate reference for its specific operating sequence and safety guidance. It covers filling the reservoir, choosing a filter, fitting the group handle to the brewing head, preparing espresso, texturing milk, cleaning, descaling and troubleshooting.
Rank #2
- Please refer to user guide or user manual or user guide (provided below in PDF) before first use
- Includes Portafilter, measuring scoop/tamper and two filters for single or double espresso
- Stainless steel boiler is engineered to last long and work for years
- Manual steam wand to texture milk for lattes and cappuccinos
Because the booklet includes descaling instructions, owners should follow its guidance and use a descaling product only if its label confirms suitability for the machine. The available information does not establish that any particular formula is compatible.
Should you consider a used EM4820?
CHOICE marks the model discontinued, and Andoo’s listing says it is no longer available. That makes current availability uncertain: a used or legacy listing is not evidence of continuing new-stock supply. Parts availability and repair options have not been established in the available sources.

Compare like with like rather than relying on the EM4820’s pressure figure. Check whether the alternative is manual or automated, its heating system and reservoir capacity, its footprint and weight, what filters and milk accessories are included, the warranty terms, and whether it is actually available. The sources here do not provide public comparative test scores, so they do not support naming a performance winner.
