You can share PS4 gameplay in Discord without a capture card by running Sony’s PS Remote Play app on a Windows PC or Mac, then sharing that app window through Discord’s desktop Go Live feature. The PS4 connects to the computer through Remote Play; Discord shares the computer’s view. This is a software-based workaround, not a native PS4-to-Discord broadcast.

What you need

  • A PS4 with Remote Play enabled and access to the PlayStation account used on the console.
  • A compatible Windows PC or Mac with the PS Remote Play app installed.
  • A compatible controller connected to the computer. Sony’s setup instructions specify a USB connection for a DUALSHOCK 4 controller; check that your cable and connectors are compatible.
  • A Discord desktop client and permission to share in the voice channel or call.
  • A network connection suitable for Remote Play. PlayStation recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download, and at least 15 Mbps for a better experience. These are Remote Play recommendations, not a promise of Discord stream quality. PlayStation’s Remote Play requirements and setup guidance

Set up PS Remote Play on your PS4 and computer

Enable Remote Play on the PS4

  1. On the PS4, open Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings and turn on Enable Remote Play.
  2. Open Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, then select Activate. Sony says this activation can be enabled on only one PS4 per account. PlayStation support

Allow the console to wake from rest mode, if needed

If you want to connect while the PS4 is in rest mode, open Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable the options to stay connected to the internet and allow the PS4 to be turned on from the network.

Connect the computer to the PS4

  1. Install PS Remote Play on a compatible Windows PC or Mac. Sony’s current requirements page lists Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, and macOS Big Sur through Sequoia; check the page for current compatibility details.
  2. Connect a compatible controller to the computer. Sony specifies a USB cable for the DUALSHOCK 4 PC/Mac setup.
  3. Open PS Remote Play and sign in with the PlayStation account used on the PS4.
  4. Choose PS4 in the app. When it connects, the console screen appears on the computer.

Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download for Remote Play and at least 15 Mbps in each direction for a better experience. Actual results can vary with the network environment, and these figures do not establish the quality or latency of the Discord stream. PlayStation Remote Play setup

Share the PS Remote Play window in Discord

  1. Open Discord on the computer and join a voice channel or call where you have permission to share.
  2. Select the screen-streaming icon.
  3. Choose the PS Remote Play application window rather than your entire screen, so viewers see the gameplay window rather than other desktop activity.
  4. Select Go Live to start sharing.

Discord’s Go Live and Screen Share guidance describes sharing an application window or an entire screen in a server or voice call. Audio capture varies by client: Discord lists Windows desktop, macOS desktop, Chrome browser, and mobile clients as supporting audio sharing, while Linux audio sharing is unavailable. Do not assume every setup will capture game audio in the same way.

Know what this method does—and does not do

  • It shares gameplay through a computer. PS Remote Play brings the PS4 display to the PC or Mac, and Discord Go Live shares that computer window.
  • Linking PSN is different. Connecting a PlayStation Network account to Discord can show PS4 or PS5 game activity on a Discord profile; it does not send PS4 gameplay video to a channel. Discord and PlayStation Network Connection FAQ
  • Discord voice on a console is not PS4 video sharing. Discord’s console voice guidance describes joining or transferring voice chat on PS5. Discord states, “Transferring Discord voice chat is only available on the PS5.” That does not make it a PS4 screen-streaming feature. Discord’s PlayStation Network FAQ
  • Do not broadcast from the PS4 while using Remote Play. Sony lists broadcasting from the PS4 or PS5 as a Remote Play restriction. The workflow here uses the Remote Play window on the computer instead. PlayStation Remote Play restrictions

Troubleshoot common connection and sharing problems

PS Remote Play cannot find the console

  • Make sure the PS4 is on, Remote Play is enabled, and the computer is signed in with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
  • Check that the PS4 system software is current and that the console is connected to the network.
  • If automatic connection fails, use the manual registration or pairing option described in Sony’s Remote Play setup instructions and follow the on-screen prompts. PlayStation support

The PS4 is in rest mode and will not connect

Confirm that the rest-mode options for internet connectivity and network wake are enabled under Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode. If the console remains unavailable, turn it on directly and try connecting again.

Discord will not share the app or its audio

  • Confirm that you joined a channel or call where you have permission to share, then select the PS Remote Play application window in the sharing picker.
  • If viewers cannot hear game audio, check the sharing behavior for your Discord client and platform. Discord documents different audio support across clients, including no Linux audio sharing.

The game or screen is unavailable in Remote Play

Not every game or media function is compatible with Remote Play. Sony also lists media-app and disc-player scenarios among its restrictions. Check Sony’s Remote Play restrictions if a particular game or screen cannot be used.
