Yes—you can buy Word and Excel without a Microsoft 365 subscription. What Office Home 2024 includes
Microsoft’s Office Home 2024 license covers classic desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote on one PC or Mac. Microsoft describes the Home edition as intended for noncommercial use at home or school. Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS are listed as compatible, subject to the system requirements.
Microsoft says Office 2024 is a one-time purchase with classic app versions and does not include Microsoft 365 subscription services. A Macworld DealPost advertised Office 2024 Home for $112.97 through October 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. PT. It is a sponsored offer, and the DealPost says StackSocial prices may change. The advertised figure does not establish that the product remains available at that price or that checkout will show the same amount; confirm the edition, seller and total before paying. Which option fits your needs?
- Choose Office Home 2024 if you need the classic apps on a single computer, prefer paying once, and do not need commercial-use rights, ongoing feature updates or Microsoft 365 services.
- Consider Microsoft 365 Personal if you value current feature updates, cloud storage or other included subscription benefits enough to pay annually.
- Check the device and license terms if you use more than one computer or need the apps for work. Office Home 2024 is for noncommercial home or school use, not a general business license.
There is no universal break-even point: it depends on how long you keep the one-time license, what future Office releases you might want, and whether you value the subscription’s storage and services. Compare those needs—not just the headline prices.
