If your browser keeps opening HP Support tabs, the tabs alone do not identify the cause. Check when they appear: at Windows sign-in, when the browser starts, or while you are browsing. That timing points to the right place to troubleshoot, and testing one change at a time helps identify what is actually opening them.
First, note when the tabs appear
Before changing settings, observe whether the browser was already open and whether Windows had just started. Also note whether the pages open as separate tabs or separate browser windows.
- At Windows sign-in: A program that starts with Windows may be launching the browser.
- When the browser starts: The browser may be reopening a saved session or configured startup page.
- During ordinary browsing: Another program or unwanted software may be opening pop-ups.
These are diagnostic clues, not proof that HP Support Assistant or malware is responsible.

Test startup apps one at a time
- Right-click the taskbar and open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for HP Support Assistant and other plausible apps. Temporarily disable one nonessential entry, then restart Windows and observe whether the tabs return.
- If the behavior continues, re-enable that entry and test another candidate. Changing one item at a time makes the result easier to interpret.
An HP Support Community reply to a similar multiple-tab report suggests testing whether HP Support Assistant starts automatically. That is a useful hypothesis, not a universal diagnosis: HP Support Community: HP Support page opens multiple tabs.

If disabling a particular app stops the tabs, update that app or change its startup behavior rather than leaving unrelated startup software disabled. HP’s startup troubleshooting guidance explains how to identify software that causes a problem: HP startup troubleshooting.
Use System Configuration only for a temporary diagnostic test
HP also documents using System Configuration to isolate startup software and services. Disabling all startup items can affect antivirus and other important software, so treat this as a temporary troubleshooting test, not a permanent fix. If HP Support Assistant appears to be the trigger
HP Support Assistant is HP software for updates, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support resources. HP says it is included on new HP desktop and notebook PCs; the Windows version does not support ARM devices. If the tabs appear only when the browser starts
Check the browser’s startup and session-restore settings. Remove an unwanted HP Support page from the list of pages the browser opens at launch, or change session restore if it is reopening tabs from a previous session. The exact menu names vary by browser; look for settings labeled On startup, Startup, or Restore previous session.
If the tabs recur even after changing the browser’s startup behavior, check whether a Windows startup app or another installed program is launching the browser. Use the sign-in checks above to isolate a program rather than assuming the browser itself is the cause.

If tabs open while you are browsing
When HP pages appear during ordinary browsing, especially alongside unrelated pop-ups, focus on identifying the software that opens them. HP’s guidance is to remove the responsible software or change its settings; it also points readers to malware guidance for adware or spyware: HP guidance for stopping pop-up windows.
