U.S. stocks rallied on October 2, 2026, with the Nasdaq Composite outperforming the Dow in available market snapshots as expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes faded. Nvidia also rose, but the available quote data does not establish that it set an all-time high.
What happened in the October 2 market session?
A Yahoo Finance market-news listing published at 9:52 PM on October 2 described the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq as rallying as Fed rate-hike expectations faded, with technology shares gaining. That supports the broad framing of the session, but the accessible coverage does not identify a specific economic release or other event as the cause.
Yahoo Finance search-result snapshots showed the Nasdaq Composite at 27,190.86, up 1.19%, and the Dow at 51,176.96, up 0.49%. These are snapshots, not independently verified official closing figures. The available material did not provide a comparable S&P 500 value, so a three-index closing comparison cannot be confirmed here.

Why did rate expectations matter?
The session was framed around fading expectations for Fed rate hikes. That is a market-expectations explanation, not confirmation that the Federal Reserve changed its policy or that a particular data release drove the move. No verified Treasury-yield change or named catalyst is available in the cited coverage.

Rate expectations can influence how investors value future corporate earnings, making the issue relevant to growth-oriented technology shares. For this session, however, the sourced evidence supports only the reported connection between easing hike expectations and a broad rally that included technology stocks; it does not establish a more specific cause-and-effect account.
How did Nvidia perform?
A Yahoo Finance quote snippet reported Nvidia at $233.95 at the October 2 close, up $3.09, or 1.34%. The same snippet showed after-hours trading at $234.22. A separate quote listing gave a daily range of $233.60 to $237.87.

Those figures describe Nvidia’s reported daily move and range, not its standing against a verified historical record. The headline’s wording that Nvidia “hits highs” should not be read as proof that the stock set an all-time high: the available quote information does not supply the prior record needed to establish that claim.
