Indian stocks opened higher on Oct. 5, 2026, after eight consecutive weekly declines in the Sensex and Nifty. The headline’s gains of 421 points for the Sensex and 127 points for the Nifty should be read with an as-of time: contemporaneous reports recorded different levels as trading progressed, and the available snapshots do not verify those exact gains at a specific moment.

What the Oct. 5 market reports show

Morning coverage described a higher opening and a rebound in both benchmarks. The reported figures differ by timestamp and by the type of market measure, so they should not be combined into a single live quote.

Report and time Reported market information How to read it
Financial Express, early report, Oct. 5, 2026 Previous close: Sensex 71,909.70 and Nifty 50 22,421.95. The prior session had fallen 570.59 points and 198.50 points, respectively. GIFT Nifty was around 22,640, up 150 points, or 0.66%. The prior closes refer to the previous session; GIFT Nifty was an early futures indication, not a cash-market close. Financial Express
Moneycontrol, 09:20 IST, Oct. 5, 2026 Sensex up roughly 450 points; Nifty back above 22,550. A morning snapshot, not a closing result. Moneycontrol
LiveMint, 09:33 IST, Oct. 5, 2026 Intraday highs above 72,451 for the Sensex and 22,582 for the Nifty. Reported highs, not necessarily the levels at the headline’s as-of time. LiveMint

The 421-point and 127-point headline gains cannot be independently tied to a timestamp from these snapshots. A precise live update needs the observation time and the corresponding index levels; opening indications, intraday highs and later readings are not interchangeable.

Why stocks were higher

Same-day reports associated the positive opening with more supportive global cues, a pullback in oil prices and less concern about aggressive US monetary tightening. These were explanations reported alongside the move, not proof that any single factor caused it. Moneycontrol and India Today covered these factors.

The Financial Express early report put Brent crude at $101.96 a barrel, down 0.28%, and US crude at $90.29, down 0.90%. Those are snapshot figures from that report, not current prices throughout the session. Financial Express

A rebound after eight weekly declines—not a confirmed reversal

The higher opening followed eight straight weekly declines in the Sensex and Nifty, according to morning coverage. That makes “rebound” or “relief move” a more careful description than declaring a lasting recovery: one morning’s rise does not establish that the multiweek decline has ended. Moneycontrol and India Today reported the recent weak run.
