If your PC runs Windows 11 24H2 Home or Pro, plan to move to a supported version now: Microsoft lists October 13, 2026, as the end-of-updates date for those editions. As of October 7, that is six calendar days away—not quite a week. Microsoft’s separate Home and Pro lifecycle page lists October 14, 2026, and says lifecycle dates use Pacific Time; Microsoft’s pages do not explain the one-day discrepancy, so they do not establish a precise cutoff time.
Is Windows 11 24H2 still supported?
It depends on the edition. Microsoft’s release-health notice and supported-version table list October 13, 2026, as the end-of-updates date for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro. The supported-version table gives Enterprise and Education a later date: October 12, 2027. Microsoft Windows 11 release information and the supported versions of Windows client distinguish the editions.
There is a one-day difference across Microsoft’s pages: its Windows 11 Home and Pro lifecycle page lists October 14, 2026, and notes that lifecycle dates use Pacific Time. The pages do not reconcile the dates. For planning, use October 13 as the date shown by Microsoft’s release-health and supported-version pages, and avoid treating either date as a stated cutoff hour.

Microsoft’s lifecycle FAQ says Home and Pro feature releases receive 24 months of servicing, while Enterprise and Education feature releases receive 36 months. What happens when Windows 11 24H2 support ends?
For Home and Pro, Microsoft says an out-of-servicing release no longer receives fixes for known issues, time-zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates that include current threat protections. That makes moving to a supported release important for security and ongoing maintenance, not merely for access to new features. Microsoft’s release-health notice describes the consequences.
How do I upgrade from Windows 11 24H2?
For an unmanaged Home or Pro PC, Microsoft says the Windows 11 25H2 update will arrive automatically. You can choose when to restart or postpone the restart. If you want to check manually, use Windows Update; an offer may not appear on every eligible device at the same time because availability can depend on the individual PC.

- Select Check for updates.
- If Windows 11 version 25H2 is offered, select Download and install.
- When prompted, choose a restart time that works for you. If you defer, return to Windows Update and complete the restart when ready.
Microsoft’s guidance covers eligible Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. If 25H2 is not offered, the absence of the offer does not by itself establish why; device eligibility, a compatibility hold, or update policy may affect availability. No—not as the in-place feature update from an existing 24H2 PC. Microsoft says Windows 11 26H1 is scoped to new devices and is not offered as a feature update from 24H2 or 25H2 on existing devices. Follow the version Windows Update offers for your PC rather than assuming the newest version label is the correct upgrade path. Microsoft’s release information explains the 26H1 scope.

What to check before you wait for an update
- Confirm your edition: Home and Pro have a different 24H2 deadline from Enterprise and Education.
- Check Windows Update: The offer and timing are device-specific; Microsoft does not promise that every PC receives it simultaneously.
- Check whether the device is managed: An organization’s update policy may determine when a work or school PC moves to another version.
- Use the offered path: For existing 24H2 PCs, Microsoft does not offer 26H1 as the in-place feature update from 24H2.
