Verdict: The SteelSeries Sensei Ten remains a capable wired gaming mouse, and its symmetrical shape with side buttons on both sides is still its best reason to buy. But it is a legacy model, not a strong default choice for 2026: newer mice are lighter, offer more flexible cables or wireless connections, and are easier to buy with current support. This review focuses on the Sensei Ten, the latest major Sensei-branded model, and compares it with the Sensei 310.

Which Sensei? “Sensei” can refer to the original Sensei, Sensei RAW, Sensei 310, or Sensei Ten. They share a design lineage but are not identical. The Ten was introduced as a tenth-anniversary successor to the original, while the 310 was an earlier redesign. TechRadar’s Sensei Ten review and Sensei 310 review provide launch-era context.

Sensei Ten at a glance

Feature Sensei Ten
Connection Wired USB; no wireless or Bluetooth
Shape Symmetrical, ambidextrous shell
Buttons Ten programmable buttons in RTINGS’ review, including two side buttons on each side
Best fit Players who value the Sensei shape, bilateral side buttons, and a wired connection
Main strengths Strong tracking and click-latency results in independent testing; broad adjustable CPI range
Main drawbacks Stiff cable, relatively dated weight and design, potentially slippery finish, no wireless connection
Current availability Not listed in SteelSeries’ main gaming-mouse catalog as of August 18, 2026; remaining stock and third-party availability may vary

SteelSeries and reviewers use CPI, while many buyers say DPI; the terms are commonly used interchangeably in mouse specifications. A large maximum CPI figure is not, by itself, evidence of better aim or tracking.

What the Sensei shape feels like

The Sensei Ten’s symmetrical body is its defining feature. It works for left- or right-handed use, and its four side buttons offer more flexibility than the usual two-button arrangement. Independent testing found it particularly suitable for claw grip; palm grip can also work across many hand sizes, while fingertip comfort depends more on hand size. These are fit guidelines, not guarantees: the raised rear and contour can feel natural to one player and awkward to another. See RTINGS’ Sensei Ten review for its grip assessments.

#1 Best Overall
SteelSeries 62155 Sensei Laser Gaming Mouse RAW - Rubberized Black
  • Delivers only what you need to help you eliminate the competition.
  • Available in two different textures: Glossy smooth and Rubberized anti-sweat.
  • Light up your wheel, CPI indicator or SteelSeries logo. Or turn it all off.
  • CPI toggle for on-the-fly high/low sensitivity adjustments.
  • Scalable pointer speed from 90 up to 5670 in increments of 90 so you can be exact.
Grip or use What to expect
Claw grip A strong starting point for most hand sizes in RTINGS’ assessment.
Palm grip Potentially comfortable for many hand sizes; check whether the shell fills your palm as you prefer.
Fingertip grip More dependent on hand size and personal preference than claw grip.
Left-handed use Symmetry and buttons on both sides make it unusually accommodating, though the unused-side buttons may need remapping or disabling.

That bilateral layout is both an advantage and a possible nuisance. Left-handed users can reach side buttons without relying on a right-handed shell, but either hand may accidentally press buttons on the opposite side. Test thumb and ring-finger placement, and check whether the software lets you disable or give harmless functions to buttons you do not use.

Gaming performance: capable, but not a modern spec leader

RTINGS reports strong tracking and click-latency performance for the Sensei Ten, alongside a broad adjustable CPI range and smooth-feeling feet. Those results support it as a competent FPS mouse. Its wired connection also means there is no battery to charge or manage. The practical question is less whether its sensor can handle ordinary competitive play and more whether its shape, weight, and cable suit your movements.

SteelSeries Sensei Laser Gaming Mouse - Grey
  • SteelSeries ExactSens, FreeMove, ExactAim, and ExactLift
  • User defined bitmaps for the onmouseLCD
  • Ambidextrous shape
  • Programmable macro buttons
  • Driverless plug-and-play, and Gold-plated USB connector

The cable is noticeably stiff and can tug or drag compared with more flexible modern designs. Routing it through a mouse bungee may reduce interference, but will not make it equivalent to a highly flexible cable. The body also feels relatively substantial beside many current lightweight esports mice. That does not make it unusable: some players prefer a more planted mouse. It does mean weight-conscious buyers should look elsewhere.

The cited testing does not establish a modern high-polling-rate advantage for the Sensei Ten. Its broad CPI range is useful for matching a preferred sensitivity, but extreme settings are not a substitute for comfortable control, consistent tracking, or a shape that fits. For an account of the tested performance and its limitations, consult RTINGS and Tom’s Hardware.

SteelSeries Rival 5 Gaming Mouse - Black
  • Perfect for all Battle Royale, FPS, MOBA, MMO, and other fast-paced games.
  • TrueMove Air precision optical gaming sensor with true 1-to-1 tracking.
  • Ergonomic 9-button programmable layout with 5 quick action side buttons.
  • 85g competitive lightweight and extra durable.
  • Next-gen Golden Micro IP54 Switches.
  • FPS: A good candidate if you prefer its shape and do not mind a wired, comparatively substantial mouse.
  • MOBA: The extra side buttons can be useful for bindings, though the Sensei is not a dedicated MMO mouse.
  • MMO: Four side buttons are limited compared with mice designed around a large bank of thumb buttons.
  • Office work: Usable, but wired; the scroll wheel has no left/right tilt or free-spin mode, and side buttons can be pressed accidentally.
  • Travel: A wireless, compact mouse is generally more convenient.

Sensei Ten versus Sensei 310

The Sensei 310 preserves the symmetrical concept and four-side-button layout, but has rubberized sides that some users may prefer to the Ten’s smoother, potentially slippery-feeling exterior. In RTINGS’ comparison, the Ten was lighter, had better feet, a wider and more precisely adjustable CPI range, a more consistent sensor, and newer software support. The 310’s tested unit showed some CPI tracking inconsistency at faster movement speeds. That is a result from the tested unit, not proof that every Sensei 310 behaves identically; sensor consistency can vary with manufacturing tolerances.

Category Sensei Ten Sensei 310
Shape and side buttons Symmetrical; two side buttons on each side Symmetrical; two side buttons on each side
Weight in comparative testing Lighter Heavier
Grip feel Smoother finish may feel slippery to some Rubberized sides provide more grip for some users
Feet and sensor findings Better feet and more consistent sensor in RTINGS’ comparison Less refined feet; tested unit showed some inconsistency at faster movement speeds
Software generation Newer support at the time of testing Older support at the time of testing
Best reason to choose The more refined, lighter revision A preference for its side texture and particular feel

Software, buttons, and compatibility

The Sensei Ten’s product guide lists PC, Mac, and Xbox compatibility. RTINGS describes ten programmable buttons and configuration through SteelSeries software. The useful functions are button remapping, CPI adjustment, profiles, and lighting controls. Software features may differ by platform, so do not assume that every setting available on a PC is available on Mac or Xbox. The guide’s software reference is historical; confirm the current SteelSeries software and device support before relying on a particular configuration workflow.

The available evidence does not establish that every setting is stored onboard or that the mouse can retain every profile without software. If you depend on a configuration away from your main computer, check the current device options before buying rather than assuming persistence. SteelSeries’ Sensei Ten product guide provides its compatibility and product information.

Is the Sensei still available new?

As of August 18, 2026, the Sensei Ten and Sensei 310 are absent from SteelSeries’ current main gaming-mouse catalog. That supports treating them as legacy models, but does not establish a formal discontinuation notice. You may encounter remaining inventory or third-party listings, with availability, condition, warranty, and price varying by seller and region. Do not assume that a marketplace listing is a current manufacturer-backed purchase.

SteelSeries still lists replacement feet for the Sensei Ten, but the company says replacement-part availability varies by region and stock in its replacement-parts guide. That is useful for an existing Ten owner with worn feet, not a promise of long-term parts support.

Checklist for a legacy or used listing

  • Check the seller’s reputation, return window, and written warranty terms.
  • Ask about storage or use history when possible; old stock may have spent years on a shelf.
  • Inspect the cable, scroll wheel, shell, and feet, and test for missed clicks or unintended double-clicks.
  • Confirm the model and included accessories, and use the return period to check that the unit is genuine and functions correctly.
  • Compare the asking price with current alternatives. Without live, region-specific pricing, there is no reliable universal “good deal” price for a legacy Sensei.

Current SteelSeries alternatives

SteelSeries’ current catalog emphasizes newer Rival, Aerox, and Prime families. They do not all reproduce the Sensei’s symmetrical shell or buttons on both sides, so treat them as alternatives for particular priorities rather than direct replacements.

Alternative Why consider it What differs from the Sensei
Rival 3 Gen 2 Wired A current wired SteelSeries option; the catalog lists a TrueMove Core sensor and a 60-million-click durability claim. Not the Sensei’s symmetrical shape or bilateral button layout.
Rival 3 Gen 2 Wireless For buyers who want wireless and Bluetooth connectivity; the catalog lists an 18,000-CPI TrueMove Air sensor. Wireless convenience, but not a Sensei-shaped replacement.
Aerox 3 Wired For a much lighter wired design; SteelSeries lists the wired model at 59 g. A different lightweight-oriented shape and design.
Aerox 3 Wireless Gen 2 For wireless use and the newer model’s listed 4K wireless polling feature. Different shape and design priorities; not a Sensei substitute for users who need its bilateral buttons.
Prime Wired For a current wired design with optical-magnetic switches. Ergonomic right-handed shape rather than symmetrical ambidextrous form.
Razer Viper Mini or another lightweight symmetrical mouse The Sensei 310 comparison found the Viper Mini much lighter, with a more flexible cable, lower click latency, and smoother-gliding feet. Smaller shape; the Sensei 310 offers more side buttons and broader operating-system compatibility in that comparison.
Rival 310 For right-handed users who like the Sensei 310’s general hardware character but want an ergonomic shell. Only left-side buttons; not ambidextrous.

Current-family specifications are listed in the SteelSeries gaming-mouse catalog. The Rival 310 comparison is available from RTINGS.

Who should buy the Sensei Ten?

  • Choose the Sensei Ten if you already know the Sensei shape suits you, want a symmetrical mouse with side buttons on both sides, and are comfortable with wired use and legacy-model availability.
  • Consider the Sensei 310 if its rubberized sides are a stronger match for your grip than the Ten’s finish, accepting its greater weight and the caveat from the tested sensor.
  • Choose a newer lightweight or wireless mouse if cable flexibility, low weight, wireless connectivity, or easier current support matters more than the Sensei form.
  • Keep or repair an existing Sensei if its shape works and the problem is limited to replaceable feet; do not replace it solely because another mouse advertises a higher CPI number.

The Sensei’s case in 2026 is specific but real: shape-first players, especially left-handed users who want side buttons on either side, may still find it a better fit than a newer mouse with a different shell. For everyone else, its age and wired design make it a niche choice rather than the default recommendation.
