Android Authority reported on October 7, 2026 that the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 was selling for $156.74 at Amazon, down from a stated $219.99 reference price. The offer was described as time-limited, but the headline’s “until midnight” does not name a time zone, and nothing in the report shows the price was still in place on October 9, 2026. Treat the figures below as the October 7 report, and confirm the live Amazon listing before you buy.
What the October 7 deal report said
Matt Horne’s article, “Top-rated SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 falls to $157 until midnight,” was published by Android Authority on October 7, 2026. The headline rounds the price to $157; the article body gives $156.74. The figures are summarised below.
| Item | Figure in the October 7, 2026 report | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Reported deal price | $156.74 | Amazon price on October 7, 2026; not verified as current |
| Stated reference price | $219.99 | Retail reference as stated in the report; not independently verified |
| Savings | $63 | Difference between the two stated prices |
| Discount | 29% | Calculated against the stated $219.99 reference price |
| Prime | Required, according to the report | Applies only if you buy with a Prime membership |
Is the deal still available?
Price-drop stories age quickly, and a time-limited offer can end before a page is refreshed. Before you buy, work through these checks:
- Open the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 listing on Amazon and read the price shown on the product page and again at checkout. A banner on an older article is not proof of the current price.
- Compare the current price with $156.74 and the $219.99 reference. If the gap has closed, the deal has ended, and the product is still worth comparing on specification and layout alone.
- Confirm the variant. The specification details in this article come from the wired, mini, English-layout, black configuration on the SteelSeries product page. Make sure the Amazon listing you buy matches that configuration.
- Confirm the item is in stock and that the Prime requirement, if you rely on it, still applies to your account.
What the keyboard is
The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 is a 60% wired gaming keyboard. SteelSeries’ product page lists the following:

- Per-key RGB lighting, with 16.8 million color options as stated by SteelSeries.

- A detachable USB-C braided cable.
SteelSeries describes these parts in durability language. That is the manufacturer’s description, not a tested lifespan, and the sources behind this article do not include independent durability testing.
Switches and actuation
OmniPoint 3.0 Hall Effect switches
SteelSeries describes its OmniPoint 3.0 switches as Hall Effect switches with adjustable actuation from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm. Actuation distance is the depth at which a key registers a press, so a wider range lets you set it shallower for quicker response or deeper to avoid accidental input. In its promotional copy, SteelSeries says: “More than just fast — our newly redesigned Hall Effect Switch is the most technically advanced, featuring Rapid Trigger and full adjustability range from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm.” That is a manufacturer claim, not a comparison with other switches.
Rank #2
- FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE & STUPIDLY FAST with OmniPoint 2.0 Adjustable HyperMagnetic switches
- RAPID TRIGGER — Eradicate latency arising from the physical movement of the switch through dynamic activation and deactivation of keys based on travel distance rather than a fixed point in the key travel.
- ULTIMATE CONTROL — 40 levels of per-key actuation (0.1 – 4.0mm) – set WASD for light, ultra-fast movements and set ability keys to deep presses to avoid accidentally triggering specials
- 2-IN-1 ACTION KEYS — Program two different actions to the same key, such as walking with a light touch or sprinting with a deep press
- 20x faster actuation, 11x faster response than traditional mechanical keyboards
Rapid Trigger
SteelSeries lists Rapid Trigger among the features of this switch design. The product materials cited here do not describe its exact behaviour or settings, so check the SteelSeries product page or GG software for the options available on your keyboard.
Rapid Tap
SteelSeries lists Rapid Tap as a feature of the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3. The cited manufacturer material names it without a detailed explanation, so confirm how it is configured in software before relying on it for a particular game.
Rank #3
- TRIPLE THREAT POWERED BY QUICKSET — Apex Pro is the only line of keyboards in the world with Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, and Protection Mode (Patent Pending), activated for your game in seconds
- RAPID TRIGGER FOR FASTER ACTIONS — Stop fast, start your next move faster. Resets the moment you release a key.
- RAPID TAP FOR FASTER MOVEMENT — Snaps to your latest key press to strafe and dodge faster.
- PROTECTION MODE STOPS MISTAKES — Patent pending feature reduces accidental keypresses on nearby keys - no more accidental ults
- QUICKSET AUTO-PRESETS — Easy setup in seconds, auto-launch pro-level configs when your game loads.
Protection Mode
Protection Mode is also listed by SteelSeries. The cited material does not state what it guards against or how it works, so treat it as a manufacturer-described feature until you can see its settings on your own setup.
GG QuickSet
GG QuickSet is listed alongside the keyboard’s other features. Setup and adjustment are handled through SteelSeries GG, which is also where the actuation range is configured.
Rank #4
- THE WORLD'S FASTEST KEYBOARD — Push the boundaries with cutting-edge OmniPoint 3.0 switches and Rapid Trigger, Protection Mode, Rapid Tap, and more
- OMNIPOINT 3.0 — More than just fast, newly redesigned Hall Effect Switch have 20x faster actuation and 11x quicker response time, with 40 levels of adjustable actuation
- GAME-READY PRESETS — Gain a competitive edge in your favorite game with just a few clicks using GG QuickSet's game-ready keyboard settings
- REDUCED LATENCY — Rapid Trigger and Rapid Tap register keypresses faster for more responsive gameplay and improved aim
- PROTECTION MODE — A SteelSeries exclusive feature — protect your keypresses by reducing the sensitivity of surrounding keys when the intended key is pressed, preventing accidental inputs
None of these features is presented here as independently measured to improve performance. Any gain depends on the game, the player and the settings chosen.

Layout trade-offs
The mini layout is built for a smaller desk footprint, and it trades that for keys. Before you buy, check whether you use any of the following, because a 60% board usually does not include them as dedicated keys:
Best Value
- Navigation keys such as Insert, Home, Page Up, Page Down, Delete and the arrow cluster.
- A function row for F1 through F12.
- A number pad.
If you need any of these, you will rely on secondary key mappings, which are set in software. The sources behind this article do not provide a full layout review, so confirm the exact mappings on the product documentation before purchase.
Who the keyboard suits
The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 fits best when the following apply:
- You want a compact keyboard that frees up desk space.
- You are comfortable with secondary mappings for the keys a 60% layout omits.
- You want adjustable actuation and are willing to configure it in SteelSeries GG.
- You prefer a wired connection.
It is a weaker choice if you rely on a dedicated navigation cluster, function row or number pad every day, or if you need a wireless model; the specifications cited here cover only the wired version.
Compatibility and setup documents
The SteelSeries product page advertises compatibility with Windows 10 and later. Check the live product documentation for your operating system before you buy, since compatibility details can change. SteelSeries Support lists a product information guide and user manual for the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 in its Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 manual and product information guide, which is the best place to confirm setup steps and key mappings.
The Bottom Line
At the reported $156.74, the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 was a $63 discount on its stated $219.99 reference price, but that offer was reported on October 7, 2026 and may have ended. If the live Amazon price is still close to that figure and the 60% layout suits you, the specifications support it as a compact wired option with adjustable Hall Effect switches. The performance and durability language comes from SteelSeries, and the sources behind this article include no independent typing, latency or durability testing.
