Steam Next Fest is a recurring showcase for demos of upcoming, unreleased games; Steam’s other themed Fests focus on a genre or subject and may feature both demos and discounts. “Steam Game Festivals” is broad shorthand, not one specific event with a single schedule or set of rules. If you want to try games before release, look for Next Fest; if you want games tied to a theme or genre, check the page for that particular Fest.
What is Steam Next Fest?
Steam Next Fest is a multi-day event centered on playable demos for games that have not yet been released. Steam describes it as a way for developers to introduce upcoming games to a wide audience. Players can try demos for free and discover titles they might want to follow. Steam’s June 2025 announcement says the event takes place three times a year: February, June, and October.

Next Fest programming has also included developer livestreams and chats. Steam’s June 2022 announcement described browsing demos by category or game tags, alongside livestreams and opportunities to interact with developers. The specific programming can vary by edition.
How is Next Fest different from other Steam Fests?
Steam’s other Fests are commonly organized around a genre, theme, or type of game. For example, Steam’s 2025 announcement for Zombies vs Vampires Fest described an event featuring discounts and demos for games related to those themes. That is different from Next Fest’s defining focus on unreleased games and their demos.

What can players do during Next Fest?
- Find demos: Browse by category, tags, subgenre, or feature to narrow the selection to games that suit your interests.
- Try games for free: Next Fest demos are free to play during the event. Availability after the event depends on the individual game; do not assume every demo disappears when the Fest ends.
- Watch developers: Check event programming for livestreams and chats, which Steam has included in past editions.
- Wishlist games: Add promising titles to your Steam wishlist to follow them and receive launch notifications.
When is the next Steam Next Fest?
Steam’s news archive lists the October 2026 Next Fest for October 19–26. Those dates are upcoming as of October 7, 2026, and event schedules can change. Confirm the dates and current details on Steam’s Next Fest news listings and the live event page before making plans.
