In Steam’s September 2026 Hardware & Software Survey, the GeForce RTX 5070 was the most commonly reported individual graphics card, at 5.86%. Systems with 32 GB of system RAM were the largest memory-capacity group, at 42.22%, ahead of 16 GB systems at 37.82%. These are shares among participating Steam users—not a census of PC owners or a guide to what hardware performs best.
What the September 2026 Steam survey shows
| Measure | September share | Change from August |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5070, individual GPU model | 5.86% | +2.30 percentage points |
| 32 GB system RAM | 42.22% | +4.77 percentage points |
| 16 GB system RAM | 37.82% | −3.38 percentage points |
Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey reports the GPU and memory figures. The RAM percentages describe system memory, not graphics memory (VRAM), which the survey tracks separately.
How to interpret the monthly changes
The shifts are notable, but they should not be read as proof that Steam users suddenly bought new graphics cards or upgraded their memory. Valve says participation is optional and anonymous; the survey measures configurations reported by participating Steam users, not hardware sales or the equipment of all PC gamers.

That change in participant mix contributed to movement in the overall results, but the available figures do not isolate how much it affected the RTX 5070 or RAM percentages. The reported month-to-month changes therefore do not establish a direct cause.

Hardware Busters’ October 2, 2026 report also gives the combined-sample RAM shares as 42.22% for 32 GB systems and 37.82% for 16 GB systems. Those are survey shares, not counts of kits sold.

The RTX 5070’s 5.86% makes it the leading individual GPU model in this survey month; it does not mean that most Steam users have one. Nor does a high survey share indicate benchmark performance, value for money, or whether a particular reader should upgrade.

- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Likewise, 32 GB being the largest RAM-capacity group does not establish that every Steam user needs 32 GB. The survey does not compare specific memory kits, DDR generations, module configurations, speeds, timings, or motherboard compatibility. Check those details against your system before choosing an upgrade.
