The only Steam free offer with a confirmed October 12, 2026 end date that we could verify is Pony Island, which was reported as free to claim and keep through that date. We could not confirm the headline’s claim of three “10/10 masterpieces” free until October 12, so this article separates what is established from what is not.
What is confirmed: Pony Island, free to claim and keep
ComicBook.com, in an October 8, 2026 article by Tyler Fischer, reported that Steam was offering Pony Island free to claim and keep through October 12, 2026. According to that report, the game would return to its normal $5 price after the offer ends.

Pony Island is a 2016 puzzle-adventure from Daniel Mullins Games. ComicBook.com estimates a playtime of two to five hours. The same article cites a 94% approval rating across 8,015 Steam user reviews and a Metacritic score of 86. These figures are ComicBook.com’s reporting, and we have not independently checked the underlying Steam or Metacritic pages. The article also quotes the game’s own pitch as calling it “a suspense puzzle game in disguise,” and that wording is attributed to the pitch rather than to a named reviewer.

The headline says three games are free until October 12. We could not verify which three games those are. The only partial support we found is a search-result excerpt of a Game Rant article with a similar headline. That excerpt says Steam’s free weekend selection includes Core Keeper. It does not list the full lineup, the terms, or the cutoff time, and we could not open the full article.

Two points follow from this. First, Pony Island’s free-to-keep offer is a separate, verified claim, and it should not be treated as proof that Pony Island is one of the three games in the headline. Second, the words “10/10 masterpieces” are headline language. No critic or Steam rating supporting a perfect score for these games was established in the material we could check.
Free to keep and free weekend are different offers
Steam uses the phrase “free” for two different kinds of access. The difference determines whether you keep the game.

| Feature | Free to claim and keep (Pony Island, as reported) | Free weekend (Core Keeper, per a headline excerpt) |

| Does it persist after the offer ends? | Reported as permanent once claimed before the deadline | Not stated in the material we could check; access is generally time-limited |

| Confirmed for the headline’s three games? | Not established | Partially: only Core Keeper is named, and only in a snippet |
How to check any Steam offer before the deadline
If you are trying to decide whether an offer is worth acting on, check these points on the game’s own Steam store page rather than relying on headlines:
- Deadline and time zone. Confirm the exact cutoff and the time zone the store uses. Reports often give only a calendar date.
- Claim or launch. Find out whether you must claim the game in the store or only launch it during the event.
- Keep or play. Check whether the offer says the game stays in your library or whether access ends.
- Region and platform. Confirm eligibility for your country and that the game supports your operating system.
- Post-offer price. Note the normal price, such as the $5 ComicBook.com reported for Pony Island, so you know what it costs if you miss the window.
Where this leaves you
As of the reporting we could check, Pony Island is the offer to act on if you want a game to keep, and the deadline is October 12, 2026. The three-game, “10/10” version of the headline remains unverified. If you see the full lineup on Steam itself or in a dated article, check the terms on each store page before you rely on it.
