Steam Deck Verified, ProtonDB, and AWACY answer different compatibility questions, so their ratings are not directly comparable. Valve reviews the overall Steam Deck experience; ProtonDB gathers community reports about Linux and Steam Deck play; AWACY tracks anti-cheat compatibility. The claimed “55% gap” is not supported by a defined, reproducible comparison in the available sources.

What each service measures

Service What it measures How to read it
Steam Deck Verified Valve’s assessment of a game’s Steam Deck experience, including controls, display and legibility, seamless interaction, and system support. Valve labels games Verified, Playable, Unsupported, or Unknown. Verified means the game works well out of the box; Playable can mean that some user adjustment is needed. Check the specific criteria rather than treating the label as a simple launch/no-launch verdict.
ProtonDB Community reports about Linux and Steam Deck compatibility. Reports can describe practical behavior and workarounds. Their volume and recency change, and the aggregate is not a controlled score directly comparable to Valve’s review or AWACY’s statuses.
AWACY (Are We Anti-Cheat Yet?) Anti-cheat compatibility status. Documented statuses include Broken, Denied, Planned, Running, Supported, and Unknown. This answers a focused anti-cheat question, not whether the whole game has good controls, display, performance, or usability on Deck. The status vocabulary is described in ProtonDL’s external-services documentation.

These scopes can produce different-looking results without contradicting one another. A game may have favorable community reports for Linux play while its anti-cheat status raises a problem for online play. Likewise, a Deck Playable label may reflect a usability adjustment even if the game launches successfully through Proton.

Is there really a 55% gap?

No reproducible 55% difference is established by the cited sources. A meaningful percentage would require a dated set of games evaluated by all services, definitions for what counts as a positive result, a consistent mapping of different statuses, and a rule for Unknown or missing data. Without those, “55%” cannot be interpreted as a measured compatibility gap.

ProtonDB may display changing site-wide report totals, but those totals are not a shared game population or a pairwise comparison with Valve and AWACY. The year in a headline also does not show that a percentage was measured in 2026.

How to check a specific game

  1. Read the current Valve listing. Find the game in the Steam Deck compatibility details and review the category and the criteria that led to it. Valve says tested titles maintain their ratings across Steam Deck LCD and OLED models, while its review process is ongoing; ratings can be updated. See Valve’s compatibility page.
  2. Look for recent, relevant ProtonDB reports. Give more weight to reports that match your device and runtime context, and read the details for workarounds or specific failures. A summary can change as users add reports.
  3. Check AWACY when anti-cheat matters. If the game uses anti-cheat—especially for online play—look up its current status. Do not infer that a supported anti-cheat status guarantees a polished overall Deck experience.
  4. Treat missing information as unknown. No report or an Unknown status is a lack of evidence, not proof that the game works or fails.
  5. Troubleshoot cautiously. Steam Support explains how to view compatibility information and force a per-game Steam Play compatibility tool in its Steam Deck software and troubleshooting guide. Trying another tool is an experiment, not a guarantee of compatibility.

Why the ratings can change

Valve describes its compatibility review as ongoing. Game updates, changes to compatibility tools, updated reviews, and newly submitted community reports can all change what a player sees. For a purchase or troubleshooting decision, use the current entry for the particular game and the reports relevant to your intended use, rather than treating any label or aggregate as permanent.
