The Steam Deck replacement-parts catalog that appeared early in May 2022 was real, but its “$5” figure described inexpensive individual components—not a full repair and not a promise about today’s prices. Valve’s official parts and repair-guide program is hosted through iFixit, where current prices and compatibility depend on the exact part and Steam Deck model.
What happened when Steam Deck parts appeared early?
In May 2022, HotHardware reported that iFixit’s Steam Deck parts catalog had gone live ahead of schedule. The story was updated on May 23, 2022, after iFixit announced official Valve replacement parts and repair guides. HotHardware’s report and update describe the early listing and the announcement.
Valve framed the program as part of the device’s repairability: the company said it made sense to work with iFixit so customers could repair or replace parts themselves. Valve’s announcement remains useful for understanding the partnership, but it is not a current price or stock listing. Valve’s Steam Deck announcement introduced the program.

The headline’s low price came from small individual items listed at $4.99 in 2022, including action-button and D-pad membranes and screen adhesive. That was not the price of a complete repair, nor does it establish a current catalog-wide minimum.

In the iFixit catalog snapshot recorded in 2026, examples included an LCD action-button membrane at $4.99, an LCD thumbstick at $39.99, an original-model LCD fan at $29.99, and an LCD battery at $134.99. These are dated storefront observations, not guaranteed live quotes; check the listing for the current price and availability. iFixit’s Steam Deck parts catalog is the place to verify the item you need.
Supply can change as well as price. PC Gamer reported on August 3, 2026, that LCD OEM battery supply had returned after an interruption, at a reported $130. That dated report differs from the $134.99 catalog snapshot and should not be treated as the current price. PC Gamer’s August 2026 battery report describes that supply episode.

Start with the Steam Deck model and the exact repair, then compare the part listing with the device you own. The catalog distinguishes LCD parts and includes some listings that specify compatibility across LCD and OLED models; a similar name or appearance does not guarantee a fit.

Can you repair a Steam Deck yourself?
Some repairs are documented for do-it-yourself work, but preparation and tools depend on the job. For its Steam Button Replacement guide, iFixit lists Phillips #1 and #0 screwdrivers, opening picks, tweezers, and a spudger. The guide also advises discharging the battery below 25%, powering down, unplugging cables, and removing a microSD card before opening the Deck. It says Valve recommends battery storage mode as an additional precaution before internal repairs. Follow the instructions for the specific repair rather than assuming every procedure uses the same steps. iFixit’s Steam Button Replacement guide contains the cited tool list and precautions.
