There isn’t one confirmed game behind the claim that Steam’s “next big co-op hit” is almost here. Several different co-op releases and milestones are scheduled for October 2026: We Were Here Tomorrow is targeting an October launch, Mycopunk is due to leave Early Access with its 1.0 update, and Escape From Playtime is set to enter Early Access. They offer different kinds of co-op, and “next big hit” is hype—not a prediction backed by player or sales figures.
Which Steam co-op games are coming up?
The closest match to a new full-game launch is We Were Here Tomorrow, announced for October 2026. The other two dates mark different milestones: Mycopunk is already playable in Early Access, while Escape From Playtime is scheduled to begin Early Access.
| Game | Co-op format | October 2026 milestone | Platforms or group size |
|---|---|---|---|
| We Were Here Tomorrow | Two-player online puzzle adventure built around communication and different player roles | Launch window: October; no exact day stated in the announcement | PC/Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; announcement says crossplay is available |
| Mycopunk | Co-op FPS in which a squad of robots takes on missions on alien planets | Version 1.0 scheduled for October 20; already playable in Early Access | Group size not stated in the cited report |
| Escape From Playtime | Co-op survival horror and exploration in an abandoned toy factory | Steam Early Access scheduled to begin October 21 | 1–4 players |
The dates and milestones come from the Total Mayhem Games Steam announcement, a PC Gamer report published September 20, 2026, and the Escape From Playtime Steam community announcement. Check each game’s current Steam listing for availability and purchase details.

What kind of co-op does each game offer?
We Were Here Tomorrow: communicate to solve puzzles
This is the most clearly defined two-person option of the three. Players take separate roles, have different abilities, and are often apart, so solving the puzzles depends on describing what each person sees and coordinating actions. The format suits partners who want conversation and problem-solving to be central, rather than simply fighting alongside one another. Total Mayhem Games announced PC/Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions with crossplay, but check the current store listings for compatibility details before organizing a cross-platform session.

Mycopunk: take on shooter missions as a robot squad
Mycopunk is the action-focused choice: a co-op shooter about robot teammates carrying out missions on alien planets. Its October date is for the full 1.0 update, not the game’s first appearance. If you want to play before then, it was already available in Early Access according to PC Gamer’s September 20, 2026 report.
Escape From Playtime: explore and survive together
Set in an abandoned toy factory, Escape From Playtime combines co-op survival horror with exploration and supports one to four players. Its Steam community announcement said an open beta would start October 1, 2026, ahead of the scheduled October 21 Early Access launch. The beta date does not establish that the game will remain open or be available when you read this, so check the developer’s current Steam announcements.

How Steam Next Fest fits into the October schedule
Steam Next Fest runs October 19–26, 2026, according to Valve’s Steamworks Upcoming Steam Events documentation. Valve describes it as a multi-day event where players can try demos, chat with developers, watch livestreams, and discover upcoming games on Steam.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat makes the event a useful general opportunity to sample upcoming PC games, but it does not confirm that any of the three titles above will participate. Check the Steam Next Fest listings rather than assuming a particular game will have a demo.

What about Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2?
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is another four-player co-op shooter, but it is not an upcoming October release: publisher Enad Global 7 announced August 25, 2026 as its release date. That date had already passed by October 4, 2026, the reference date for this release roundup. It is a comparison for players looking for a four-player co-op shooter, not a game that is still almost here.
