Steam’s Autumn Sale runs October 1–8, 2026, and PC Gamer reported that a SteamDB snapshot found 44,048 Steam games priced below $5 on October 1. Against that wall of low-cost PC deals, Grand Theft Auto VI’s announced $79.99 U.S. Standard Edition price stands out—but it is a comparison, not a sale-driven price change. Rockstar lists GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, not Steam.
What the Steam Autumn Sale offers—and what the count means
Valve’s Steamworks calendar lists the 2026 Autumn Sale for October 1–8. Featured games on Steam’s front page rotate during the event, so the visible selection can change as the sale progresses. Valve’s seasonal sale calendar and discount documentation provides the dates and general rules.

On October 1, PC Gamer reported a SteamDB snapshot of 44,048 games below $5. That is a dated count of games meeting a particular price filter—not a guaranteed total for every day of the sale, a count of equally appealing offers, or a measure of savings on any one game. PC Gamer notes that Steam’s filters can help shoppers narrow the selection. PC Gamer’s October 1 report attributes the figure to SteamDB.

The comparison is striking because a single premium launch purchase costs far more than many of the under-$5 sale options. Take-Two’s June 2026 announcement, as surfaced in the source reporting, put the U.S. Standard Edition at $79.99 and the U.S. Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Rockstar’s store page displayed €79.99 for the Standard Edition in its European context. Those amounts are specific to their currency and market; they are not one globally uniform price. The sale does not make GTA 6 more expensive, nor is there evidence in these sources that Steam discounts affect its announced price. It simply gives buyers a concrete point of comparison: dozens of thousands of low-priced PC choices versus a separately priced console release. Sale discounts vary by title, and the under-$5 snapshot does not establish that every game a reader wants is discounted.
GTA 6 is not listed for Steam
Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its support page names those platforms; it does not list Steam as a platform for this release. The October sale therefore concerns other Steam games, not a GTA 6 discount or preorder on Steam. Rockstar Support’s preorder FAQ uses the question “Where can I pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI?” and directs readers to the announced platform context.

What to know about editions and physical copies
Rockstar says the physical Standard Edition is a code in a box, not a disc. A physical package therefore does not mean the game can be installed from included disc media. Rockstar also notes that code redemption can be region-dependent; before buying, match the listed platform to your console and confirm that the code’s region works with your account. Valve’s general seller documentation says games are generally ineligible for discounts within 30 days of release or a price increase. That is a rule for Steam discount eligibility, not evidence that GTA 6 is coming to Steam or that the rule determines its console price. Rockstar’s listed platforms for GTA 6 are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Valve’s discount documentation describes the general Steam policy.

There is also no announced timeline in these sources for a GTA 6 discount. GamesRadar+ reported that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, speaking after a CNBC appearance, said publishers establish prices while storefronts can choose to reduce them, in which case the storefront reduces its margin. The same report says Zelnick did not signal a near-term publisher discount and cited GTA V’s long-maintained pricing as a reference point. That is a reported comment, not a guarantee about when GTA 6 might be discounted. GamesRadar+’s report on Zelnick’s comments provides the context.
