On September 27, 2024, the U.S. State Department announced a Rewards for Justice offer of up to $10 million for information about three cyber actors associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iranian interference in U.S. elections, or related people and entities. The announcement described the offer at that time; the available material does not establish whether it remains active or provide current submission instructions.
What the State Department said the reward covered
The announcement said the offer could apply to information on three malicious cyber actors associated with the IRGC, the IRGC’s interference in U.S. elections, or associated individuals and entities. The phrase “up to $10 million” describes the maximum stated reward, not a payment already made or a guaranteed amount for information.
The department placed the announcement in the context of efforts to influence the 2024 U.S. election and operations dating back to 2020. It said Iranian state-sponsored actors had used tactics such as hack-and-leak operations and spear-phishing to try to undermine confidence in U.S. election processes and institutions and influence political campaigns. Those descriptions are the department’s allegations and characterization in its statement, not independently established findings in the announcement itself. | Date and notice | Stated scope | Relationship to the 2024 notice |
|---|---|---|
| September 27, 2024 | Up to $10 million for information on three cyber actors associated with Iran’s IRGC, Iranian election interference, or associated people and entities. | The notice discussed efforts relating to the 2024 election and operations dating to 2020. |
| February 1, 2022 | Up to $10 million concerning Iranian cyber actors Seyyed Mohammad Hosein Musa Kazemi and Sajjad Kashian and an operation that attempted to interfere with the 2020 U.S. presidential election. | A separate offer naming two people; the notice does not establish that they were the three actors referenced in 2024. See the State Department’s 2022 reward note. |
| June 30, 2022 | Up to $10 million under a broader standing offer for information leading to identification or location of a foreign person, or prevention, frustration, or favorable resolution of foreign election interference in the United States. | Program context, not confirmation of the 2024 notice’s current status or exact terms. See the State Department’s June 2022 media note. |
All three notices state maximum offers. They do not report that informants received those amounts, and the notices should not be treated as one continuous or identical offer.
What is—and is not—established about the offer today
The cited State Department pages are archived material from the department’s 2021–2025 domain. They document what the department announced in 2024 and 2022, but do not confirm whether the September 2024 offer is still active or identify current eligibility rules or submission channels. Anyone considering providing information should verify the current instructions on the official Rewards for Justice site rather than rely on an archived announcement.
