No: $5,000 per month is not the only current Starlink Maritime price. That figure came from Starlink’s July 2022 launch offer, which also required a one-time $10,000 payment for two high-performance terminals. Starlink’s current US maritime page instead lists Global Priority plans from $250 to $2,150 per month, with the right choice depending on data use and where the yacht travels.
Where the $5,000 monthly price came from
When SpaceX announced Starlink Maritime on July 7, 2022, its offer was aimed at merchant vessels, oil rigs, and premium yachts. The launch package cost $5,000 per month plus $10,000 upfront for two high-performance terminals, and advertised download speeds of up to 350 Mbps. Those are launch-era terms, not the current price list or a guarantee of yacht performance.
Today, Starlink’s US maritime page presents tiered Global Priority service and identifies Starlink Performance hardware. The prices below are the monthly amounts displayed on that US page; Starlink says prices, promotions, taxes, and availability can vary by country and change over time.

Global Priority is the plan family Starlink identifies for maritime and global connectivity. Starlink characterizes its listed speeds as maximum available speeds, which can be slower during congestion.

| Data allowance | Monthly price shown on Starlink’s US maritime page | Starlink’s described fit |
|---|---|---|
| 50 GB | $250 | Backup connectivity and a small-business tier |
| 500 GB | $650 | Small businesses with below-average bandwidth needs; approximately 2–4 users |
| 1 TB | $1,150 | Small and midsize businesses with average bandwidth needs; approximately 5–10 users |
| 2 TB | $2,150 | Midsize businesses with above-average bandwidth needs; approximately 10–20 users |
The user counts and business descriptions are Starlink’s guidance, not a yacht-specific allowance. For a boat, estimate the combined traffic from crew, guests, video, cloud backups, and operational systems, then compare that use with the plan allowance. A few people doing routine messaging and browsing have a different profile from guests streaming video or a crew regularly transferring large files.
Can Starlink work at sea and while a yacht is moving?
Starlink’s help center lists Performance, Performance Gen 2, Standard, and Mini as approved for in-motion use. Ocean access depends not just on the dish but also on the service plan and the limits attached to it.

A built-in ethernet port provides wired connectivity for routers, mesh systems, gaming devices, or network hardware. Average power consumption of 25–40 watts supports efficient operation in off-grid or mobile power setups.
Roam near shore
Roam 50 GB covers territorial waters and inland waterways up to 12 nautical miles from the coast for five consecutive days and up to 60 days per year. Roam Unlimited has the same territorial-water limits, but can enable Ocean Mode for extended use beyond 12 nautical miles and outside those time limits.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGlobal Priority for broader maritime travel
Starlink says Global Priority provides prioritized speeds on land, coastal waters, and international waters wherever Starlink is available. This is the relevant plan family to examine for sustained offshore or international use; actual coverage still depends on service availability in the waters on the yacht’s route.
Rank #3
- Gen 3 Satellite Dish: Third-generation antenna delivers a stronger, more stable signal and faster performance.
- Wi-Fi 6 Router: Modern router technology supports faster speeds, increased device capacity, and better efficiency.
- Extra 150FT Cable Included: Extended reach for more flexible installation in large spaces or hard-to-access locations.
- High-Speed, Low-Latency Internet: Stream HD content, video conference, or work remotely with confidence.
- Ideal for Rural and Remote Areas: Perfect for homes, cabins, RVs, boats, and off-grid setups where wired internet isn’t available.
What Ocean Mode does
Ocean Mode starts immediately when the account holder enables it and stays on until the account holder turns it off. Check the account’s service terms and charges before enabling it, particularly if the vessel will cross Roam’s territorial-water limits.
Which terminal and installation does a yacht need?
Starlink’s current maritime page identifies the Starlink Performance terminal. The unit is enclosed in aluminum, supports AC and/or DC power, includes a three-year warranty, and is described as built for ten-year survivability. Starlink says it is engineered for harsh and remote environments, including in-motion use, and is ready for permanent installation with a mount chosen by the buyer.
Rank #4
- Ultra-Portable Design: Measuring just 11.75" x 10.2" and weighing under 2.5 lbs, the Mini is compact enough to fit in a backpack, making it perfect for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts.
- Integrated Wi-Fi Router: Equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and dual-band 3x3 MU-MIMO, it supports up to 128 devices, ensuring seamless connectivity for all your gadgets.
- High-Speed Connectivity: Experience download speeds over 100 Mbps, suitable for streaming, video calls, and browsing, even in remote locations.
- Low Power Consumption: Operates efficiently with a power draw of 25–40W, and can be powered via 12–48V DC input or USB-C PD battery packs, ideal for off-grid setups.
- Quick & Easy Setup: With the included kickstand and pipe adapter, setting up the Mini is straightforward, allowing you to get online in minutes.
Starlink describes the terminal as designed for permanent vessel installation and able to withstand extreme cold, heat, sleet, heavy rain, and hurricane winds. That environmental description does not determine whether a particular mounting location or installation is suitable for a specific yacht.
- Mounting: Select a structurally appropriate marine mount and position it with the vessel’s installation constraints in mind.
- Power: Plan for AC and/or DC power as appropriate to the onboard electrical system.
- Cabling: Route cables to the terminal location while accounting for the boat’s layout and installation requirements.
- Network: Starlink documents direct Ethernet integration with existing onboard networks. Business tools also include a portal for remote fleet monitoring and management.
For a permanent installation, structural mounting, cable routing, and network integration may require a marine installer or connectivity integrator familiar with the vessel.

How to judge the cost and expected performance
Plan price is only one part of the comparison. Match the allowance to expected traffic, confirm that the plan covers the yacht’s route, and account for the terminal, mount, power, installation, and onboard network requirements. Starlink’s stated maximum speeds are not guaranteed speeds, and congestion can reduce performance.
SpaceX’s 2025 maritime case study says that, for the cited fleet, a flat rate of $5,000 per vessel per month was expected to reduce monthly internet costs by nearly 70% after Starlink implementation while expanding capability and total throughput. The same case study reports 1–2 seconds of latency for the fleet’s previous VSAT service and 50 milliseconds for Starlink in a cited drone-ship operation. These are figures from a specific SpaceX fleet case, not a forecast or performance result for every yacht.
Quick Recap
What to verify before ordering
- Confirm the local plan name, price, currency, taxes, hardware promotions, service availability, and support terms for the country where the account will be purchased.
- Check the vessel’s itinerary against the plan’s territorial-water and offshore rules, including whether Ocean Mode or Global Priority is needed.
- Estimate recurring data use rather than choosing a tier based only on the number of people aboard.
- Confirm that the selected terminal is approved for in-motion use and plan its permanent mounting, power, cable routing, and Ethernet integration.
- Set expectations around congestion: published maximum speeds are not a promise of a particular throughput at a particular time or location.
