There is no single Starlink replacement that works everywhere. Depending on your exact U.S. address, alternatives may include fiber, cable, DSL, fixed wireless, carrier 5G home internet, or satellite service from Hughesnet or Viasat. Start by checking the FCC National Broadband Map, then confirm eligibility and terms directly with providers; a map listing or mobile coverage indication does not guarantee good service inside your home.
Which Starlink alternatives are worth checking?
Check technologies in the order that makes sense for your address, not simply by what is available in the nearest town. Even a property in a rural area may have a wired option, while a nearby road with cellular coverage may not mean a home qualifies for carrier home internet.
Fiber, cable, and DSL
Search your precise address for wired broadband first. Fiber, cable, or DSL may reach a property even when the surrounding area looks remote. The FCC map lists fixed technologies and reported speeds, but the provider must confirm whether it will serve your location.

Fixed wireless delivers internet over a terrestrial wireless link and may use an outdoor antenna. Viasat describes this category as “antenna-based internet” in its rural internet options overview. Availability is local and address-specific. An outdoor LTE/5G directional antenna may suit some installations, but check the provider’s equipment rules and gateway compatibility before buying one; there is no universally compatible model established here.

Carrier 5G home internet
Carrier home internet uses a fixed wireless connection, but eligibility for a home plan is not the same thing as seeing mobile coverage on a map. T-Mobile offers 5G home internet and directs customers to check availability. Check other carriers by exact address as well. Indoor signal, terrain, the device or gateway, and network capacity can all affect the experience.
Satellite services besides Starlink
Hughesnet and Viasat market satellite internet for rural and remote areas. Hughesnet advertises downloads of up to 100 Mbps for its Elite home plan and describes Fusion as combining satellite and wireless technologies. These are provider claims, not independently verified typical speeds. Hughesnet says it offers satellite service throughout the contiguous United States, but that claim does not guarantee installation at every address or a particular result. Viasat says its service is available to the majority of the U.S. population, including many rural locations; that broad statement also does not establish availability at a specific property. Check current plans, broadband labels, equipment requirements, and address eligibility with each provider. See Hughesnet’s home satellite internet plans and Viasat’s rural internet information.

How to check what serves your address
- Search the exact address. Open the FCC National Broadband Map and enter the full service address. If it is missing, FCC guidance says you can use a town and state or select a location on the map. See how to use the map.
- Review fixed broadband listings. Note each reported provider, technology, and maximum advertised download and upload speed. Use the speed filters to include services below 25 Mbps if slower or older offerings matter to your decision.
- Inspect mobile coverage separately. Switch to the mobile map rather than treating a fixed broadband listing as evidence of cellular reception. FCC mobile coverage models describe where users should be able to connect outdoors or in a moving vehicle, not whether a signal will reach indoors. Terrain, device, and cell-site capacity can affect actual service. The FCC explains these distinctions in what’s on the National Broadband Map.
- Confirm the offer with the provider. Ask whether it will serve the exact address and request its current broadband label and typical-speed information. Also ask about data policies, equipment and installation charges, contract length, and cancellation terms.
- Challenge an incorrect listing if needed. The FCC provides an availability challenge process. For a mobile coverage dispute, its guidance calls for outdoor or in-vehicle testing with the FCC app; do not run those challenge tests indoors. Instructions are in the FCC’s map guide.
How to compare the options that are actually available
Once providers confirm eligibility, compare the offers against how you use the connection and where you need it in the home.

- Technology and responsiveness: Consider whether the connection suits latency-sensitive tasks such as video calls or interactive gaming. Do not infer a particular experience from the technology label alone.
- Speed claims: Separate advertised maximums from typical-speed information. A maximum is not a promise of the speed your home will receive.
- Data terms: Check allowances, policies, and any other usage conditions in the current plan details.
- Total setup and exit costs: Compare equipment, installation, contract length, and cancellation terms—not just the monthly offer.
- Coverage inside the home: Consider whether the connection and its equipment can reach the rooms and devices that matter. A coverage-map indication is not proof of indoor performance.
Why the FCC map is a starting point, not a guarantee
The FCC map is built from provider-submitted availability data and modeled mobile coverage. It is useful for finding services to investigate, but its listing cannot establish that a provider will install service at your property or that performance will meet your needs. The FCC says providers report data as of June 30, due September 1, and December 31, due March 1 each year; those reporting dates do not mean the map is instantly current. See the FCC’s explanation of map data and coverage.
