To get truffles in Stardew Valley, raise a mature, fed pig in a Deluxe Barn and let it roam outdoors on a day that is neither rainy nor winter. Keep accessible ground clear: truffles appear on the farm as items to pick up, and blocked tiles can prevent or redirect them.
What a pig needs to find truffles
- A Deluxe Barn: Pigs live in this barn. The Pig page lists a Deluxe Barn as their home.
- Maturity and food: The pig must be mature and fed.
- Outdoor access: A pig must be outside to produce a truffle.
- Suitable conditions: Production does not occur in winter or during rain or storms.
- An available tile: Objects and debris can block eligible ground. Crafted flooring and paths are not included in the debris restriction described by the wiki.
Truffles are left on the ground where pigs walk; they are not produced inside the barn. Their walking routes influence where they appear. Fences can help guide pigs, but they do not guarantee that every truffle will land inside the enclosure: if the tile in front of a pig is occupied, a truffle can be placed farther away. Check around the enclosure as well as inside it. See the wiki’s Truffle page for item details.
Why your pig may not have left a truffle
Check the season and weather
Pigs do not go outside in winter, and rain or storms prevent truffle generation. A pig that remains in the barn, whether because of winter or lack of outdoor access, cannot produce one that day.

Confirm the pig is mature and fed
A young or unfed pig does not meet the listed production conditions. Check its status before changing the enclosure.

Look for blocked or overlooked ground
Clear debris and other objects from the area the pig can reach so eligible tiles remain available. Then search beyond the fence too: an occupied tile in front of the pig can cause the truffle to appear farther away.
How often pigs produce truffles
The wiki describes the first-truffle check as a 0.02% chance per frame while a pig stands on a free tile, and says that walking over mostly free tiles gives an approximately 99.99% chance of at least one truffle in a day. These are in-game mechanics, not real-world statistics. Friendship does not affect the first-truffle check.

After the first truffle, the chance of an additional one is the pig’s friendship divided by 1,500. At maximum friendship, the wiki gives a 66% chance for each extra-truffle check and an average of about three truffles per pig per day. A daily average is not a guarantee: a pig can produce fewer or more on a particular day.

To make Truffle Oil, put one truffle in an Oil Maker; processing takes six in-game hours. The listed base price for the oil is 1,065g, or 1,491g with the Artisan profession. Compare the value of the specific truffle with the oil price that applies to your profession. Without Artisan, an iridium-quality truffle is worth more sold raw than converted into oil, so processing is not automatically the better return. Consider the six-hour processing time as well.
Truffle Oil also has uses beyond selling: it can contribute to the Pantry’s Artisan Bundle, is an ingredient for a Rain Totem, can be used in tailoring and dyeing, and is requested for Mayor Lewis’s “Mayor’s Need” quest.
