Choose Forza Horizon 5 if you want an open world to explore now; consider Star Wars: Galactic Racer if you want a focused, campaign-led racing game set in the Star Wars galaxy. As of October 4, 2026, Galactic Racer is still upcoming, with an announced October 6 launch. Its final content and quality are not yet established.
How the two games differ
These games share a racing label, but they offer different kinds of play. Forza Horizon 5 is an established open-world driving game set in Mexico. Galactic Racer is an upcoming runs-based racer built around a story campaign and competitive play.

Choose Forza Horizon 5 for open-world variety
Forza Horizon 5 is the stronger fit if you want to roam rather than repeatedly enter defined racing runs. Its Mexico setting, hundreds of cars, and player-made EventLab creations support a broad, varied driving experience. Forza.net also lists cooperative and competitive modes, accessibility options, and the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions.

If you are checking Game Pass, do not rely on the original launch announcement as proof of current inclusion. Forza’s 2021 launch article said the Standard Edition would be in Xbox Game Pass at launch; check the live Xbox catalog for present availability.
Consider Galactic Racer for Star Wars and focused racing
Galactic Racer’s announced design is aimed at players who want racing tied to a story and a strong sci-fi setting, rather than a large world to explore at their own pace. The official Xbox listing describes Shade pursuing revenge and glory through a solo campaign and strategic PvP grudge matches.

Is Galactic Racer like Forza Horizon 5?
Only in the broad sense that both are racing games for Xbox. Forza centers on open-world driving and a large, accumulated content offering. Galactic Racer is presented as runs-based racing with a campaign, arcade trials, and PvP. If free-roaming, car variety, and creation tools are your priorities, Forza is the closer match. If the Star Wars setting and campaign-led structure matter more, Galactic Racer is the one to watch.
Should you wait for Galactic Racer?
As of October 4, 2026, its announced launch is two days away: October 6 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, according to StarWars.com. If you are deciding what to play immediately, Forza is the available, established choice in this comparison. If you are specifically looking for a new Star Wars racer, waiting until launch lets you confirm the game’s actual availability and see how its released content matches the announced design.
