Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a strong fit for PS5 players who want fast Star Wars racing and enjoy learning from repeated attempts. Its route choices and run-based progression give races stakes beyond finishing first, but the loop can wear thin when events repeat, and protagonist Shade is not deeply developed. TechRadar reviewer Demi Williams came away positive after almost 30 hours on a base PS5; that is the reviewer’s experience, not independent testing by itechguides.com.
What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing game from developer Fuse Games and publisher Secret Mode. It launched worldwide on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 6, 2026, according to StarWars.com. Rather than a succession of unrelated circuits, its campaign centers on runs through the Galactic League: qualify, choose routes and events, and try to build status while managing the risk of failure.

The setting is Jakku after the Empire’s fall, in the New Republic Era. The official reveal places racers among the wreckage at the Graveyard of Giants; TechRadar describes Shade’s rivalry with champion Kestar Bool. That context gives the racing a Star Wars identity, but the main draw is competition and progression rather than a story-first adventure.

How the racing and progression work
PlayStation lists landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers. TechRadar describes a campaign in which players qualify and choose branching routes through events. League Tokens can be lost when a player fails or takes risks, giving route selection consequences and making each attempt part of a larger run.

Events and the retry loop
The event mix includes standard races, Field Tests, Mystery Encounters, and Eliminator events. In Eliminator, the last-place racer is knocked out until three remain. The result is a risk-and-retry structure: a run can go wrong, but what you learn can inform the next attempt.
TechRadar’s Demi Williams found returning after a loss compelling because prior-run knowledge made the next attempt feel rewarding. The same review warns that Field Tests became repetitive after numerous completions and notes a difficulty curve. Those are the reviewer’s observations, not findings from our own play.

Vehicle identities
The official PS5 listing confirms four vehicle categories, but the detailed handling comments below come from Creative Bloq’s review of the Xbox Series X/S version, not PS5-specific testing.

That variety may appeal if you want different vehicle personalities rather than one handling style across the whole roster. It does not, by itself, establish how every type feels on PS5.

Is it fun on PS5?
TechRadar’s review is positive about the pace, customization and buildcraft, and the satisfaction of improving through repeat attempts. Williams called it “the Star Wars racing game I’ve always wanted” and said it sparked a competitiveness she had not expected. Her review was first published in October 2026 and reports almost 30 hours of play on a base PlayStation 5.
The main trade-off is repetition. Repeating events is part of the progression design, but the reviewer specifically found Field Tests less engaging after many completions. If you enjoy refining your approach after a setback, that structure may be a strength; if you want a steady stream of wholly new tracks and events, the repeat loop may be a drawback.

Characterization is another limitation in that review: Shade has limited depth. The rivalry and post-Empire setting provide a frame for the racing, but players seeking a rich character-driven Star Wars campaign should temper expectations.

TechRadar calls it a roguelike racer, reflecting the campaign’s runs, branching choices, failure risk, and learning between attempts. That label is useful as a description of the loop, but it does not mean the game is identical to a traditional roguelike or establish a particular set of genre conventions. The practical question is whether you like replaying events and using what you learned to make a better run.

Does it include podracing?
Yes. PlayStation lists podracers among the vehicle types, and the official product page documents the game’s broader racing roster. However, TechRadar’s reviewer said Podracing Tour mode was locked during the review period, so that review does not provide firsthand evaluation of the mode. Creative Bloq’s comments about podracer handling are from its Xbox Series X/S review, not a PS5 test.
Accessibility and controls
PlayStation’s PS5 game listing describes a broad set of accessibility options. These include visual comfort settings that can disable camera movement and effects and add a center-screen dot; adjustable text and subtitle presentation; color alternatives and high contrast; audio volume, mono audio, alternative audio cues, and directional audio indicators; controller remapping, stick sensitivity and inversion; and options to play without motion controls or vibration.
The listing also names adjustable difficulty and assists, plus offline pausing. It says the game can be played without subtitles because there is no spoken dialogue, while also stating that spoken dialogue is fully subtitled. Since those statements sit together on the official listing, check the in-game subtitle options if spoken dialogue or subtitle behavior is important to you.
PS5 editions and Collector’s Edition contents
The official game site says physical Standard and Deluxe Editions are available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not PC. Its Collector’s Edition includes the digital Deluxe content, a metal Kor Sarun: Darc X landspeeder model, a physical 80-page art book, a steel case and slipcover, a banner, and pilot patches. The announcement does not establish current regional pricing, retailer stock, or availability, so check a live listing for those details before buying.
Should you buy Star Wars: Galactic Racer on PS5?
Based on the available PS5 review, this is most appealing if you want high-speed Star Wars vehicle racing, enjoy experimenting with routes and builds, and find repeated attempts motivating rather than tedious. It is a less certain choice if repeated events quickly frustrate you or if you want a substantial protagonist-led story. The positive assessment comes from TechRadar’s reviewer; performance, frame rate, loading, and controller behavior have not been independently tested here.
