Bonhams is scheduled to auction hundreds of items from Stanley Kubrick’s film archive in London on February 3, 2027, following exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London. Reported highlights include the star-child model from 2001: A Space Odyssey, props from The Shining, annotated scripts and Kubrick’s director’s chair. The dates, lot details and estimates below come from 2026 reporting; check Bonhams’ current sale catalogue for the latest information.
What is being auctioned?
Reports describe a collection of hundreds of items drawn from the Stanley Kubrick Film Archives. The selection is said to include original props, annotated scripts, production materials, awards, filmmaking equipment and personal possessions. The examples below are reported highlights, not a complete lot list.
2001: A Space Odyssey
The reported standout is the star-child, or cosmic foetus, model seen in the film’s final scene. The Guardian reported that it was predicted to fetch as much as £800,000; that is a forecast, not a confirmed sale price.
The Shining
Reported lots include a special-effects axe wielded by Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance. The Guardian gave an estimate of £30,000–£50,000. It also reported two sky-blue dresses worn by the Grady twins and a The Shining clapperboard. The axe is associated with the scene in which Torrance attacks Dick Hallorann. The tricycle from the film is not included in the sale.
