SS Rajamouli says he filmed an axe-wielding action scene for Simhadri in front of Kerala’s Assembly building, with the crew spending about ten days in the state. He said he does not know whether such a shoot would be possible now; that was uncertainty, not a claim that current rules prohibit it.
What was the violent scene Rajamouli shot outside the Kerala Assembly?
In a promotional conversation for Don’t Trouble The Trouble, Rajamouli recalled filming in Kerala for Simhadri. He described the hero running in front of the Assembly with an axe and killing people in the scene. Rajamouli estimated that the crew was there for about ten days, according to reports by Hindustan Times and The Times of India.

The description and duration are Rajamouli’s recollection as reproduced in those reports, rather than a verified production schedule. He added that he did not know whether filming in that location would be possible now. The reports do not establish what permissions were obtained for the original shoot or what current rules would allow.
Was the scene from Simhadri?
Yes. The sequence Rajamouli recalled was from Simhadri, the 2003 film starring Jr NTR. The reports describe Simhadri as an orphan raised by a landlord who secretly protects the landlord’s estranged granddaughter, Indu. The story later reveals that Simhadri is Singamalai, a vigilante revered in Kerala.

Why did the filmmakers choose Kerala?
Rajamouli said the story required the hero to leave Andhra and go somewhere separate, so the filmmakers chose Kerala. The reports also say the film was remade in Tamil as Gajendra in 2004 and in Kannada as Kanteerava in 2012; those release details are reported by Hindustan Times and The Times of India.
What did Rajamouli say about the name Singamalai?
He said Singamalai is a Tamil word. As he recalled it, the crew joked at the time that people would not distinguish Tamil from Malayalam, and proceeded with the Kerala setting and name. That explanation comes from Rajamouli’s reported account, not an independent account of the production’s naming process.

Why did they call it Rajamouli’s most violent action episode?
During the conversation, producer SS Karthikeya described the sequence as the most violent action episode Rajamouli had filmed and said he did not think the director had shot anything more violent afterward. Rajamouli agreed. This is their assessment of the scene, not a documented ranking of every action sequence in his filmography.
