The historical Sprint Android 6.0.1 firmware builds are G900PVPU3CPCA for the Galaxy S5 SM-G900P and G860PVPU2CPD1 for the Galaxy S5 Sport SM-G860P. They are model-specific stock firmware identifiers, not ordinary app downloads. Confirm the model shown on your phone before obtaining or flashing any package; the two files are not interchangeable.
Firmware identifiers and reported archive details
Both builds are identified as Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware in coverage published on May 25, 2016. That makes them historical Sprint-era packages, not current releases. The reported names differ between firmware listings, so use the model, build, and carrier identifiers together rather than trusting a filename alone.
| Device | Exact model | Build | Android | Reported carrier/CSC | Reported archive names |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sprint Galaxy S5 | SM-G900P | G900PVPU3CPCA | 6.0.1 Marshmallow | G900PSPT3CPCA | G900PVPU3CPCA_G900PSPT3CPCA_BST.zip is listed by Nerds Chalk; Android Sage reports the internal filename SM-G900P_1_20160323182814_6qco3xi5p7.zip.enc4. |
| Sprint Galaxy S5 Sport | SM-G860P | G860PVPU2CPD1 | 6.0.1 Marshmallow | G860PSPT2CPD1 | G860PVPU2CPD1_G860PSPT2CPD1_SPR.zip is listed by Nerds Chalk; Android Sage reports the internal filename SM-G860P_1_20160405203014_hhuij7itvm.zip.enc4 and a size of 1,515,670,688 bytes. |
Android Sage describes the builds as Odin-flashable firmware, but the reported internal names ending in .zip.enc4 do not by themselves establish that a currently available archive is a complete, extracted Odin package. The reported size applies to the S5 Sport file only. No manufacturer-backed hash or current integrity record for every mirror is established in the cited listings. Check the complete archive contents and provenance before flashing; a filename match alone does not authenticate a file.

Confirm your phone’s model before downloading
- In Android, open Settings → About device or Settings → About phone, then read Model number.
- Proceed only if it says
SM-G900Pfor the Sprint Galaxy S5 orSM-G860Pfor the Sprint Galaxy S5 Sport. - If Android will not start, enter Download Mode and read the model information shown on the screen. Do not rely on the product name printed on a case or shown by a seller.
- Record the current build and carrier information where available, then compare them with the intended firmware before flashing.
“Galaxy S5” is not a sufficient match. The international G900F, AT&T G900A, Verizon G900V, T-Mobile G900T, Canadian G900M, and other variants use different firmware. Firmware listings separate packages by model and carrier; see the Galaxy S5 firmware archive. The Sprint S5 Sport is SM-G860P, not “SM-G960P” or “SM-G9860P,” which appear as inconsistent model references in some coverage.
Choose and check a package carefully
Use this order to evaluate a candidate archive:
- Exact model: Match
SM-G900PorSM-G860P; never cross-flash between them. - Carrier and build: Look for the corresponding Sprint identifiers:
G900PSPT3CPCAwithG900PVPU3CPCA, orG860PSPT2CPD1withG860PVPU2CPD1. - Package type: Determine whether the download is a complete stock package or an OTA fragment. An OTA update and a full firmware package are different installation paths; a fragment may not be suitable for restoring a damaged system.
- Integrity and source: Compare a cryptographic hash if a trustworthy one is available, and prefer a reputable archive with clear provenance over an opaque file locker. The cited listings do not provide a current manufacturer-backed integrity record for every mirror.
One listing inconsistency deserves particular care: Android Sage’s detailed S5 firmware information identifies G900PVPU3CPCA, while its download section reportedly associates a file with G900PVPU1AND2. Do not treat those identifiers as equivalent. Do not flash a package unless its model and build are consistent with the intended target.

What these files are—and are not
- OTA update: Delivered to a working phone’s system updater and installed through that update mechanism.
- Stock firmware: Samsung system software generally installed from a computer with a service utility such as Odin. A complete package may contain several components.
- Custom ROM: Third-party software, not Sprint stock firmware. Its installation requirements and hardware support differ.
- Recovery package: A package intended for a particular recovery environment may have a different structure and installation method from Odin firmware.
Do not assume an archive is suitable for Odin just because it is called firmware. Inspect its contents and confirm that its format matches the flashing method and tool version you intend to use.

Prepare before using Odin
- Back up photos, contacts, messages, and authentication or recovery codes. A full flash can erase data; preservation is not guaranteed.
- Charge the phone to about 60% or more and use a reliable USB cable connected directly to the computer.
- Confirm the model and record the current build and carrier details.
- Install appropriate Samsung USB device drivers on a Windows PC. Remove or close Kies or other Samsung software if it interferes with the USB connection.
- Extract the archive and inspect the resulting files before launching Odin. If the package is encrypted or does not contain the expected components, do not improvise or rename files to make them fit.
- Verify the Odin version and package layout against reliable instructions for that exact package. The general sequence below is orientation, not a manufacturer-verified procedure for every archive.
General Odin flashing sequence
- Power off the phone and enter Download Mode using the hardware-key combination appropriate to that model. Read and confirm the warning screen; if the displayed model or mode is unclear, stop.
- Connect the phone to the Windows PC and launch Odin. Confirm that Odin recognizes the device before selecting files.
- Load each component only into its matching slot:
BLinto BL,APinto AP,CPinto CP, andCSCinto CSC. UseHOME_CSConly if the package provides it and you specifically intend to attempt to preserve data; it does not guarantee that data will remain intact. - Leave Re-Partition disabled unless verified instructions for the exact package explicitly require it.
- Start the operation and wait for Odin’s completion result and the phone’s reboot. Do not disconnect the cable during an active write.
- Allow the first boot considerably longer than a normal restart. If the phone remains in a boot loop, use the recovery steps below only after considering data loss.
Troubleshoot common flashing problems
Odin reports FAIL
Stop and check the model, build, archive completeness, USB connection, drivers, and whether the Odin version supports the package layout. If the operation has stopped, close Odin, return the phone to Download Mode, and recheck the archive. Re-extract it and try a different cable or direct USB port. Do not enable repartitioning as a speculative fix.

The computer does not detect the phone
- Confirm that the phone is actually in Download Mode.
- Try a known-good cable and another direct USB port; avoid hubs while troubleshooting.
- Check Windows Device Manager for a driver or device error. Reinstall Samsung device drivers from a trustworthy Samsung source if needed; avoid random driver-download sites.
- Close Kies or other software that may be holding the device connection, then try another computer if detection still fails.
The phone loops at startup or stays on the Samsung logo
Give the first boot time to complete. If the loop persists, a damaged installation, data incompatibility after a major Android change, a mismatched CSC, an incomplete flash, or failing storage may be involved. You can enter stock recovery and wipe the cache if that option is available. A factory reset may be necessary, but erases user data. Reflash only after confirming the model and complete package; a firmware flash cannot repair failed storage or other hardware.
The flash succeeds but mobile service does not
A successful firmware flash does not guarantee network service. Provisioning, SIM or network compatibility, modem or APN configuration, activation limitations, or changes to legacy Sprint infrastructure can prevent service. Firmware cannot by itself guarantee that a device will work on a current carrier.

Should you choose a later Marshmallow build?
These are the specific builds named in this article, not necessarily the final or newest Android 6.0.1 releases for every Sprint-branded device. Nerds Chalk lists later Sprint Galaxy S5 builds including G900PVPS3CPE2 and G900PVPU3CPE1, and a later S5 Sport build, G860PVPU2CPH4, in its firmware archive. If your goal is the newest listed stock build rather than a specific historical version, investigate a later package for your exact model instead of assuming the named build is final.
When to seek another recovery option
Use a professional repair service if the phone cannot enter Download Mode, you suspect storage or other hardware failure, or preserving data is critical. A repair service may help with device recovery, but cannot necessarily overcome a network or activation limitation tied to legacy Sprint infrastructure. Custom ROMs may offer a different Android version, but they are not substitutes for Sprint stock firmware and may have model-specific recovery requirements, hardware limitations, and separate risks to data and security.
