Spider-Man Unlimited, the animated series that sent Peter Parker to Counter-Earth, premiered on October 2, 1999. Its 27th anniversary is October 2, 2026. The series lasted 13 episodes and ended without resolving its story, but its distinctive Spider-Man variant later appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).
What was the Spider-Man cartoon set on Counter-Earth?
Spider-Man Unlimited was a science-fiction animated series built around a premise that took Peter Parker away from his familiar New York setting. He travels to Counter-Earth, where he wears a new suit and becomes involved in resistance to the society’s ruling order. The series also reimagines familiar figures in its alternate world.

Why did Spider-Man Unlimited stop after 13 episodes?
The series produced 13 episodes. Its final episode aired on March 31, 2001, and left the story unresolved rather than bringing the Counter-Earth conflict to a conclusion. That cliffhanger is the main reason the cartoon’s short run still draws attention: viewers get an unusual Spider-Man setup, but not a completed ending.

A 2026 ComicBook.com account says Fox scheduled the show opposite Pokémon, removed it after its first three episodes, and aired the remaining ten produced episodes later. That is a secondary account of the broadcast history, not a confirmed statement from Fox or Saban.
Who voiced Spider-Man in the series?
Rino Romano voiced Peter Parker and Spider-Man in Spider-Man Unlimited. His performance belongs to this 1999–2001 cartoon; the available reporting does not establish that Romano reprised the role in the later film appearance.

Which Spider-Man Unlimited appeared in Across the Spider-Verse?
The Spider-Man variant with the Unlimited costume appears among the Spider-People imagery in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). The film’s appearance is a visual cameo, not a continuation of the cartoon’s Counter-Earth plot. It does not resolve the series’ cliffhanger, and the reporting does not identify a substantial speaking role for this variant. “Most underrated” is a judgment, not an established ranking. What makes the series a strong candidate for renewed attention is more concrete: it gave Peter a distinctive design, moved him into an unusual science-fiction setting, and committed to a serialized story. Its 13-episode run and unresolved finale also mean it is best approached as an intriguing alternate Spider-Man experiment, not a complete story.
