SPAM is a free-to-play online card-combat game that reached No. 1 in Steam’s “Trending Free” category shortly after launch, according to Notebookcheck’s report dated 8 October 2026. Its appeal appears to be a quick-to-understand but tactical format: four creatures start on the battlefield, and players use abilities, resources and card upgrades to beat an opponent. The ranking and player figures below are launch-period snapshots, not live Steam statistics.
What is SPAM on Steam?
SPAM is an online, turn-based combat and card game developed and published by Ticroco Entreprise. Steam describes collecting cards, assembling a deck, earning new cards through victories, and playing ranked matches against players around the world or dueling a friend. How does SPAM’s combat work?
Four units are in play from the start
Notebookcheck’s launch coverage describes a four-card deck in which all four creatures begin on the battlefield. That makes the match less about drawing the next unit and more about choosing how to use the units and abilities already available. Players try to overcome the opponent’s four creatures through tactical decisions and card combinations. This specific four-unit description comes from Notebookcheck’s account; Steam’s product page describes the broader turn-based combat and card-collection premise.

Upgrade cards during a match
Steam says players can upgrade cards through the Tox Shop during matches. Notebookcheck likewise describes buying upgrades there as battles unfold. That adds an in-match spending decision to the tactical choices, rather than limiting card progression to between-match deck construction.

Why did SPAM attract attention at launch?
The strongest explanation supported by the available descriptions is the combination of a compact battle format and low-friction access. Four starting creatures make the central tactical situation easy to grasp, while ranked matches, friend duels and card collection offer different ways to play. The game costs nothing to start, although Steam discloses optional in-game purchases, including chance-based purchases.
Notebookcheck reported that SPAM had risen to No. 1 in Steam’s “Trending Free” category shortly after launch. The same 8 October 2026 report cited a peak of more than 7,000 concurrent players and about 700 user reviews one day after launch, 87% of them positive. These are figures reported by Notebookcheck, not independently verified historical Steam chart or review captures; Steam rankings and review totals change over time.

What did early players like—and criticize?
Notebookcheck’s early-reception account said players praised tactical depth despite the small team size, card combinations and hand-drawn art. It also noted criticism of the tutorial and monetization. That is an early snapshot from one outlet, not a settled or current consensus. The report said gameplay-relevant cards could be unlocked without paying, while real-money purchases could speed progress; Steam’s official listing separately confirms in-game purchases and chance-based in-game purchases.

Steam lists SPAM as free-to-play. Its store disclosure says the game includes in-game purchases and chance-based in-game purchases. The available descriptions do not establish that spending is required to play; Notebookcheck reported that gameplay-relevant cards could also be unlocked for free. Players who prefer to avoid monetized progression should review the Steam purchase disclosure and the game’s options before investing time or money.
