Filtronic said SpaceX placed a £47.3 million ($62.5 million) order on 26 August 2025 for its next-generation gallium nitride (GaN) E-band solid-state power amplifier (SSPA). The UK supplier called it its largest-ever order and said the equipment would support Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit communications ground segment. The terms and product claims are Filtronic’s; the cited announcements do not include independent confirmation from SpaceX.
What did SpaceX order from Filtronic?
The order is for Filtronic’s next-generation GaN E-band SSPA product, which the company described as the first order for this product generation. Filtronic designs and manufactures high-frequency radio-frequency (RF) and millimetre-wave transmit and receive products. Its announcement describes the SpaceX deal as a business-to-business component supply agreement, not a sale of consumer Starlink terminals or routers.
Filtronic says the amplifier product will support SpaceX’s Starlink constellation in the ground segment of low-Earth-orbit communications. It describes the new solution as having higher output power, improved efficiency and enhanced thermal management. The 2025 order expands an existing relationship rather than starting a new one. Filtronic announced a strategic partnership with SpaceX on 24 April 2024, alongside an initial $19.7 million (£15.8 million) order for E-band SSPA modules. The company said that initial order was scheduled for delivery in FY2025; that timing applies to the 2024 order, not necessarily to the later award.

In the 2024 announcement, Filtronic also said SpaceX had committed to ongoing orders for the next five years and described collaborative development and supply across multiple frequency bands. Its 2024 annual report said the arrangement included a minimum-order condition of $10 million in each subsequent 12-month period during that five-year period. That contractual condition should not be read as guaranteed revenue or proof that every future order is assured. Is this Filtronic’s largest order?
Filtronic called the August 2025 SpaceX award its largest-ever contract. In its full-year results for the year ended 31 May 2026, the company continued to describe the $62.5 million agreement as its largest single order to date. That qualification is time-bound to Filtronic’s reporting; it does not mean the order is the company’s largest source of revenue in every reporting period. When will Filtronic deliver the 2025 order?
The cited 26 August 2025 announcement does not provide a full delivery timetable for the £47.3 million order. The FY2025 delivery schedule announced in April 2024 refers to the separate initial order, so it should not be applied to the 2025 award. The available cited information establishes the announcement date and order value, but not when the later contract will be fully delivered.
What the order says about Filtronic’s business
The SpaceX agreement is a significant expansion of one customer relationship, but Filtronic’s FY2026 results also reported other work: an $8.0 million amplifier-system development contract for a US-based customer, a €7.0 million European space agreement and a £13.4 million European defence contract. These awards show activity across several customers and markets; they do not establish how much revenue any contract will contribute in a particular period or guarantee future performance.
