Soup Weather has a clear emotional idea: show how a worsening mental-health episode changes the world Bean sees. In Renee O’Flynn’s 5/10 Switchaboo review, that visual storytelling lands, but difficult or unclear minigames repeatedly pull attention away from the conversations and scenes that matter most. The result may interest players drawn to reflective narrative games, but the review describes a play experience that is hard to recommend for its gameplay alone.

What is Soup Weather on Nintendo Switch?

Soup Weather is a digital narrative exploration game developed by beambag and published by GiantMargarita. Nintendo’s US listing gives October 1, 2026 as its release date and describes Bean as an unemployed woman who spends a week talking with neighbors while her mental health declines. Players explore the town, play minigames, and get to know its characters, according to the publisher description on Nintendo’s US store listing.

The store estimates a 500 MB download and lists single-system play, TV, tabletop and handheld modes, and touch-screen support. It marks the game as “Supported” for Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility. These are US-store listing details; regional catalog availability and pricing may differ.

What works in the review?

Visual storytelling gives the subject a shape

O’Flynn’s strongest praise is for the way Bean’s surroundings grow duller and foggier as her mental state worsens. In her view, those visual changes make the shift in perception legible without relying only on dialogue. That gives the game a distinct way to express its subject, and it is the clearest reason the review sees value in its intentions.

Asylum - Nintendo Switch
  • A chilling journey into the dark mind: Explore the Hanwell Mental Institute and uncover its dark past.
  • Experience a mind-bending original storyline as recurring hallucinations blur the line between memory and reality.
  • Investigate a detailed, decrepit asylum through point-and-click adventure gameplay.
  • Solve evocative challenges that reward wit and observation.
  • Enter an engrossing atmosphere with a memorable soundtrack inspired by 1980s horror films and John Carpenter.

A personal response to intrusive thoughts

O’Flynn also writes that the portrayal of intrusive thoughts felt accurate to her own experience of OCD. That is her personal response, not clinical validation or evidence that the game will represent every player’s experience. Her review’s headline captures the balance: “Could teach people an important lesson.”

What feels frustrating to play?

Minigames compete with the story

The main criticism is that minigames interrupt emotionally important conversations and healing scenes. O’Flynn reports replaying a Flappy Bird-like cloud section many times and finding it difficult to follow dialogue while concentrating on the challenge. For a story that depends on listening to neighbors and noticing Bean’s changing state, that conflict between attention and action can blunt the intended emotional effect.

  • Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
  • Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
  • Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
  • Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only

Objectives and controls can be hard to read

O’Flynn describes unclear objectives in several minigames and controls that felt awkward to her. Her account of feeding geese is especially negative: she says she could not tell what she controlled or what the meter meant, and stopped playing that section. These are observations from one reviewer’s playthrough, not independently verified bugs or a guarantee that every player will encounter the same difficulty.

Getting around can slow the pace

The review also cites cumbersome stair traversal and long walks between neighbors. Those navigation complaints matter because the game’s appeal depends on moving through town and spending time with its characters; friction between scenes may make a deliberately quiet experience feel tedious rather than contemplative.

Is Soup Weather worth playing on Switch?

It depends on what you want from it. If visual storytelling about grief and declining mental health is your priority, the review identifies a meaningful idea in the way the town’s appearance changes, as well as a portrayal of intrusive thoughts that resonated personally with O’Flynn. If you need clear objectives, comfortable controls, and uninterrupted dialogue, her account raises substantial reservations.

Switchaboo rated the game 5/10 in O’Flynn’s review, published October 1, 2026. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a consensus score. Her conclusion is that the game may communicate an important lesson but did not engage her as a game, feeling closer to an art installation than an enjoyable play experience. Readers comparing narrative games about grief or mental health may find it useful to consider how each game balances dialogue with active play, how clearly its mechanics communicate, and whether its emotional presentation holds attention despite friction.
