SoundHound AI is not just a voice-assistant business. It sells voice and conversational AI and enterprise agent-orchestration software, and its portfolio has expanded through acquisitions. That makes direct comparisons with other voice AI companies meaningful only when investors first match the businesses being compared, then examine growth, profitability, customer exposure, dilution, and valuation on consistent terms.
SoundHound reported $61.9 million in Q2 2026 revenue, up 45% year over year, and said it raised its full-year outlook in its August 5, 2026 earnings release. Those figures describe the company’s reported results; they do not by themselves show how much growth came from the legacy business, acquisitions, or individual large customers.
How does SoundHound AI make money?
SoundHound sells software and services built around voice and conversational AI. Its offerings reach several kinds of customer and use case, including automotive embedded voice, enterprise conversational AI, and agent orchestration. Those markets do not have identical buyers, deployment models, or revenue patterns, so “voice AI company” is too broad a label for an investment comparison.

Voice and conversational AI
The company’s voice and conversational AI products let businesses incorporate voice interactions into their offerings and operations. An investor comparing this business with a peer should identify whether the peer licenses embedded software, provides a cloud platform, automates a contact center, or sells another type of solution. Those are related areas, but revenue in one is not automatically comparable with revenue in another.

Enterprise agents and orchestration
SoundHound describes OASYS as an orchestration and intelligence layer for building, deploying, and managing multilingual agents across channels. Its Q2 2026 Form 10-Q says OASYS, together with its voice and conversational AI offerings, forms the foundation of its enterprise go-to-market approach. Treat descriptions of product capability as company statements; a product announcement does not establish customer adoption, recurring revenue, or commercial scale on its own.
An acquisition-shaped portfolio
Acquisitions have changed the business investors are measuring. SoundHound reported $169 million in 2025 revenue, up nearly 100%, in its February 26, 2026 annual-results release. That is a company-reported historical result for a business changed by acquisitions; it should not be read as the organic growth rate of the pre-acquisition operation.
SoundHound’s investor-relations announcements state that it completed its LivePerson acquisition on September 4, 2026. The company also announced OASYS Edge on September 24 and a Kia deployment on September 30, 2026. These announcements are relevant to strategy and product reach, but their financial contribution, integration costs, and effect on cash generation need to be assessed through reported results.

Is SoundHound growing faster than its competitors?
The available company figures show SoundHound’s reported growth, not a like-for-like ranking against competitors. SoundHound’s August 5, 2026 earnings release reported Q2 revenue growth of 45% year over year. Its February 26, 2026 release reported that 2025 revenue grew nearly 100%. The periods differ, and the annual result reflects acquisitions; neither figure alone establishes that SoundHound is growing faster than a particular peer or that the growth is organic.
Separate organic growth from acquired revenue
When an acquisition adds sales, reported revenue can rise even if the legacy business is growing more slowly. For each company, check whether management discloses acquired revenue, pro forma results, or organic growth, and note the period and calculation basis. If those disclosures are unavailable or inconsistent, compare reported growth but label it as such rather than treating it as an organic-growth comparison.
Check customer concentration and deal timing
SoundHound’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q says Customer B and Customer G represented 13% and 12% of revenue, respectively, in the quarter ended June 30, 2026. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, it says no customer exceeded 10% of revenue. These statements cover different periods and are not contradictory: quarterly concentration can be higher than the share over a six-month period. The filing anonymizes those customers, so their identities should not be inferred.

Across companies, look for concentration, renewals and retention, backlog conversion, and the timing of large contracts. In automotive, distinguish an announced design win or deployment from recurring revenue at material scale. In enterprise software, a signed customer or product launch likewise does not, by itself, show how much revenue has been recognized or whether a deployment will expand.
What should investors compare before buying SOUN stock?
Use the same period, accounting basis, and business scope for each company. A practical comparison includes growth quality, profitability and cash, capital needs, customer exposure, product evidence, competitive alternatives, and valuation.
Profitability, cash flow, and accounting effects
- Compare gross margin and operating expenses, then review both GAAP and adjusted operating results. Check how each company defines adjusted measures and whether exclusions recur.
- Use cash flow and cash balances to assess the resources needed to fund operations and growth. Do not substitute an accounting profit or gain for cash generated by the business.
- Identify stock-based compensation and acquisition-related items, and compare how they affect reported results and shareholder dilution.
SoundHound’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q reports a $41.4 million gain related to the fair value of the Amelia contingent earnout for the six months ended June 30, 2026. Changes in the earnout liability flow through operating expense. This remeasurement can materially affect reported comparisons, but a fair-value gain is not cash generated from selling software or services. Investors should inspect the GAAP figures and the company’s adjusted measures separately.

Acquisition funding and dilution
For an acquisition-led business, include cash and shares issued, contingent earnouts, integration costs, and potential future financing needs in the comparison. Consider whether acquisitions add durable revenue and capabilities, and whether reported results show the acquired businesses being integrated effectively. A growing revenue line can coexist with higher costs, dilution, or continued funding needs.
Product performance and customer outcomes
Compare product evidence using independent, consistently measured benchmarks where available. Useful dimensions include supported languages, latency, accuracy, offline or edge operation, integration effort, privacy controls, and customer outcomes. SoundHound’s statements about superior speed or accuracy are company claims unless supported by independent testing under comparable conditions; the same evidentiary standard should apply to its competitors.
Competition and substitutes
SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K describes competition from much larger technology companies, specialist vendors, and alternatives built by customers themselves. It also cites pressure from lower-cost or free offerings. An investor comparison should therefore include more than direct public-company peers: a customer may choose a large platform, a specialist focused on its region or industry, a lower-cost substitute, or an in-house system.

The same Form 10-K warns that generative AI can produce false or hallucinatory inferences, inaccurate or biased output, and other errors, with potential operational, reputational, legal, and regulatory consequences. This is a disclosed risk, not proof that a particular product has failed. It does mean that reliability, safeguards, and the consequences of errors matter alongside demonstrations of capability.
Valuation on a comparable basis
Compare valuation only using a consistent market date and metrics suited to the businesses involved. Enterprise value to revenue can be a useful starting point for companies at different profitability stages, but it does not make unlike business mixes or growth profiles comparable. Differences in margins, acquisition accounting, dilution, and cash requirements can make the same multiple mean different things. Share prices, market capitalizations, and valuation multiples change over time, so use current figures when making an investment decision rather than treating a dated multiple as durable.

Execution and acquisition integration
SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K identifies integrating acquisitions and realizing their expected benefits, acquiring and retaining customers, protecting intellectual property, and securing capital as material risks. The company’s forward-looking expectations may not prove correct. Investors should track reported financial contribution and integration costs rather than assume that strategic fit translates directly into profitable growth.

The company describes its market as highly competitive and rapidly changing, with rivals that may have greater financial, technical, or marketing resources. That is SoundHound’s risk disclosure, not an independent measurement of market share or proof that it is behind a particular rival. It is a reason to scrutinize customer wins, renewals, product differentiation, and economics rather than relying on broad market narratives.
Announcements versus financial evidence
New products, partnerships, and deployments may signal strategic progress, but their material effect on revenue, profitability, and cash generation must be evaluated in subsequent reported results. Give more weight to recognized revenue, recurring customer use, retention, margins, and cash flow than to an announcement count.
How to build a fair peer comparison
- Define the market slice. State whether you are comparing automotive embedded voice, cloud voice platforms, contact-center automation, enterprise agents, restaurant ordering, or device licensing.
- Match the reporting period. Use the same quarter or fiscal year and note whether the figures are GAAP, adjusted, reported, or pro forma.
- Label the growth measure. Separate organic growth from acquired revenue where disclosed; otherwise call it reported growth and do not imply that it is organic.
- Reconcile profitability and cash. Compare margins, operating expenses, cash flow, stock-based compensation, and acquisition-related accounting on consistent terms.
- Assess customer quality. Examine concentration, renewals, retention, backlog conversion, deployment scale, and channel dependence.
- Test product claims. Prefer independent, comparable evidence on accuracy, latency, language support, integration, privacy, and customer outcomes.
- Account for capital and risk. Include acquisition consideration, earnouts, dilution, financing needs, execution risk, and the possibility of lower-cost or in-house alternatives.
- Use a dated valuation snapshot. Compare multiples only when business mix and financial maturity are sufficiently alike, and record the market date used.
SoundHound’s management described generative AI and large language models as an inflection point for conversational AI in its company-authored 2025 Form 10-K, filed March 2, 2026. That is management’s view of the market, not an independently established forecast. Investors should test it against the company’s reported customer adoption, financial results, and ability to convert product expansion into sustainable cash generation.
