For Sony Store Japan’s 2026 PS5 Pro purchase application, applicants need at least 60 cumulative hours of PS4 and/or PS5 gameplay during a specified two-year period, using the Sony account they apply with. The qualifying period ended on September 27, 2026, so playtime added after that date cannot help. This is a Sony Store Japan rule—not an established requirement for every Japanese retailer.
What counts toward the 60-hour requirement?
Sony counts gameplay on PS4, PS5, or a combination of the two. The 60 hours are cumulative, not 60 hours on each console. Play must have been logged while signed into the same Sony account used for the application, from September 27, 2024, through 11:59 p.m. on September 27, 2026. The window is now closed.

These conditions apply to the Sony Store Japan application described in Sony’s notice. The available evidence does not establish that other Japanese retailers require 60 hours, use the same application process, or have stock available.

Meeting the requirements does not guarantee the right to buy. Sony says it will hold a lottery if eligible applications exceed the planned number of units; the notice does not publish that number. It does not establish that every eligible applicant will be selected.

Does the 60-hour rule apply to every Japanese retailer?
No such universal rule is established by Sony’s notice. It sets out conditions for this Sony Store application. Other retailers may have their own sales methods, eligibility conditions, and inventory, but current terms for those routes are not confirmed here. Check each retailer’s own listing or notice rather than assuming the Sony Store threshold applies everywhere.
Why did Sony choose 60 hours?
The notice gives the eligibility conditions and describes a conditional lottery, but it does not explain why Sony chose 60 hours. It also provides no unit count or measured evidence about shortages, scalping, or the policy’s effectiveness. The rule can be described as an access condition for this application; attributing a particular motive or proven result to Sony goes beyond what the notice establishes.
