The Sony BRAVIA XR-65A80L is a 2023 65-inch-class OLED TV with 4K resolution, a 120 Hz panel, Google TV, and Dolby Vision support. Sony’s specifications also list 4K/120 Hz HDMI signals and PS5-specific picture features for the US model. Those facts make it a credible feature set on paper, but they do not establish how bright it gets, how well it handles reflections, or how responsive it feels in actual use. This is therefore a specification-based review, not a hands-on performance verdict.
What the Sony XR-65A80L is
The XR-65A80L is Sony’s 2023 A80L-series 65-inch-class OLED television. Sony lists the screen as 65 inches, measured diagonally at 64.5 inches, for the US model. Its resolution is 3840 × 2160 pixels, and the panel refresh rate is 120 Hz. The model runs Google TV. Sony’s US specifications and the Sony product page identify the product and its published features.
Picture formats and performance: what the specifications tell you
HDR compatibility
Sony lists HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision compatibility for the US XR-65A80L. That tells you which HDR formats the TV supports; it does not indicate how bright the screen gets or how effectively it displays HDR highlights in a room.
What cannot be judged from the spec sheet
No independent measurements are available here for peak or sustained brightness, contrast in controlled conditions, reflection handling, viewing angles, panel uniformity, upscaling, or motion performance. OLED is the panel type, but that alone is not enough to predict how this particular set will look in your room. If you watch in a bright space or care about sports motion, seek a measured review of this exact model before choosing it over alternatives.

Gaming: 4K at 120 Hz, with regional differences
For the US model, Sony lists 4K 120 Hz HDMI signal support, PS5 Auto HDR Tone Mapping, and PS5 Auto Genre Picture Mode. These are documented compatibility and feature claims, not measurements of input lag or evidence of how many ports support every gaming feature at once. The US specification page does not establish VRR support in the material cited here.
Sony’s UK specification page lists VRR on HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 and specifies four HDMI inputs for the cited UK model. Because Sony’s US and UK pages do not provide identical regional claims, confirm the exact market version and its port capabilities before buying for a gaming setup. Built-in sound
Sony specifies Acoustic Surface Audio+ with three actuators and two subwoofers, and lists five 10 W output ratings. These describe the TV’s audio design and rated outputs; they do not establish sound quality, dialogue clarity, bass response, or how it compares with a soundbar. Consider listening to the TV or consulting an independent audio test if built-in sound is central to your decision.
Dimensions, weight, and wall mounting
For the US model, Sony lists the TV body without the stand as 57.13 × 33 × 2.13 inches, a weight of 51.4 lb without the stand, and VESA mounting spacing of 300 × 300 mm. Before ordering a wall bracket, confirm that it supports this VESA pattern and the TV’s weight, and check the bracket and installation requirements for your wall. Sony’s manuals page includes a document for the SU-WL855 bracket, but that listing alone is not a recommendation that every installation should use it.

Should you buy the Sony XR-65A80L?
The documented feature set is a reasonable starting point if you want a 65-inch-class 4K OLED with 120 Hz refresh, Dolby Vision, Google TV, and Sony’s listed PS5 features. Whether it is a good buy at a particular price depends on performance and comparison points that the official specifications do not answer: brightness, reflections, gaming latency, sound quality, warranty terms, and the number of ports offering the features you need. Compare those details using independent testing and the specification page for your region, rather than treating the feature list as proof of real-world performance.
