For a premium comparison, match the Sony WH-1000XM6 against the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)—not the Bose QuietComfort name in general. Bose also sells the standard QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen), a distinct, lower-priced tier. Both premium models have manufacturer-rated battery life of up to 30 hours, but the available specifications do not establish a universal winner for noise cancellation, sound, comfort, or calls. Choose by the features and fit that matter to you, and compare current prices in your region.

Which models are you comparing?

“Bose QuietComfort” covers more than one current model. The closest premium-tier matchup here is the Sony WH-1000XM6 versus the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). If you want a separate standard-tier Bose option, consider the Bose QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen).

How do their noise-control features differ?

Sony WH-1000XM6

Sony lists its Adaptive NC Optimizer and ambient sound among the WH-1000XM6 features. Sony describes its processor and adaptive-microphone system as optimizing noise cancellation in real time. That is the manufacturer’s description of the system, not proof that it cancels more noise than Bose in every setting.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)

Bose documents Quiet, Aware, Immersion and Cinema modes for the Ultra 2nd Gen, as well as an updated ActiveSense algorithm. These are named operating modes and product features, not directly comparable measurements of how much noise each headphone blocks.

If your decision depends chiefly on airplane, train or office noise, look for independent tests that compare both exact models under similar conditions. The manufacturer materials cited here do not establish a controlled noise-attenuation winner.

What do the battery ratings tell you?

Sony rates the WH-1000XM6 for up to 30 hours of music playback with noise canceling on and up to 40 hours with it off. Bose lists 30 hours for the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). These are separate manufacturer ratings, not a controlled comparison; actual endurance depends on how you use the headphones, and the figures alone do not show which will last longer in your routine.

Which one suits your wired listening and devices?

Choose Sony if its listed formats and included cable suit your setup

Sony lists SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3 support for the WH-1000XM6 and includes a connection cable. Check which formats your source device supports and whether they matter to the way you listen; a listed codec does not guarantee an audible benefit for every person or setup.

The standard QuietComfort 2nd Gen is a distinct option if you do not need the Ultra tier. The available material does not establish how its overall performance compares with either premium model, so weigh its live price against the features you actually need rather than assuming the lower tier is equivalent.

What should you check before choosing?

  • Fit and comfort: Try the exact model if possible. Comfort depends on your head shape, glasses, and how long you wear headphones; the cited material does not provide a comparative comfort test.
  • Calls and sound: These are personal and use-dependent. Seek independent, properly attributed comparisons if microphone quality or a particular sound profile is decisive; the manufacturer pages cited here do not establish a winner.
  • Noise control: Match independent test conditions to your likely use, such as steady travel noise or voices in an office. Feature names alone do not establish comparative attenuation.
  • Connections: Check your phone, computer and audio sources for support of the codecs or USB-C audio path you want to use.
  • Price and stock: Compare current offers in your region, not a past announcement price or a manufacturer-page observation.
