Sony’s WF-1000XM6 and Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 both promise top-tier noise cancellation, but neither company’s launch claim proves that its earbuds outperform the other in every setting. Independent head-to-head reviews lean toward Sony’s cancellation, while fit can change how well ANC works for an individual listener. Choose based on your ear fit, phone ecosystem, preferred features, and the price you can actually find.
Does the WF-1000XM6 have better noise cancellation than AirPods Pro 3?
There is no neutral, universal ANC winner established by the available comparisons. What Hi-Fi? said its reviewers found Sony a little more effective across the board, and Tom’s Guide also favored Sony in its listening test. These are reviewer judgments, not standardized measurements that guarantee the same result for every listener or noise environment.
Fit matters: TechRadar’s reviewer reported fit issues with the WF-1000XM6 that affected their ANC experience. A comfortable, secure seal helps block sound, and earbuds that do not fit your ears well may disappoint even if reviewers praise their cancellation. Try both models if possible, especially if you have had trouble keeping in-ear earbuds sealed.

Sony attributes the improvement to its QN3e and Integrated Processor V2 chips, adaptive optimization, and four microphones in each earbud. That 25% figure is Sony’s claim against its own predecessor—not a head-to-head result against AirPods Pro 3. Apple, for its part, described AirPods Pro 3 at launch as having the “world’s best ANC” among in-ear wireless headphones; that, too, is a manufacturer claim, not independent validation. Sony’s WF-1000XM6 announcement and Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 announcement state claims using different comparison baselines.

Which features matter for your phone and routine?
Choose Sony for codec options and multi-device use
Sony lists LDAC and LC3 support, along with multipoint connection, which can be useful if you switch between devices. Codec support alone does not establish that music will sound better: results depend on the source, device support, settings, and listener. Sony also lists Ambient Sound mode on its WF-1000XM6 support page.

For an iPhone user who wants Apple’s hearing and workout features, AirPods Pro 3 may be the more compelling value. The best choice depends on which features you will actually use, not only the ANC claims.
Quick Recap
How to decide between Sony WF-1000XM6 and AirPods Pro 3
- Pick the WF-1000XM6 if it seals comfortably in your ears, you want LDAC or LC3 and multipoint, and you are willing to pay more at the reported US prices.

- Try both before buying if ANC is your deciding factor and you can do so: reviewer comparisons favor Sony, but fit can affect the experience.
