Ape Escape is the PS1 series reportedly being considered for a comeback, but Sony has not announced a new game. TalkEsport reported on October 4, 2026, citing industry insider NateTheHate; no title, developer, platforms, trailer, or release date has been confirmed.
Is Ape Escape coming back?
It may be, but the available information is a rumor, not confirmation of a project. TalkEsport reported on October 4, 2026, that NateTheHate said Sony was looking to revive dormant franchises including Ape Escape. PlayStation LifeStyle had reported on October 2 that Ape Escape was among the dormant series reportedly under consideration. Neither report is an official Sony announcement, and TalkEsport said Sony had not commented. TalkEsport’s report and PlayStation LifeStyle’s report are the basis for the claim.
In wording quoted by TalkEsport from a ResetEra post, NateTheHate said: “I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises.” That is an insider’s statement as reported by TalkEsport, not a statement from Sony.

Who is making a new Ape Escape game?
No developer has been named in the reports. They say Team Asobi is not involved. Bandai Namco is a less certain case: the reporting says NateTheHate was not fully sure, but thought the company was not involved. These are claims attributed to the insider, not confirmed development details.

Why does the 2010 date matter?
Ape Escape began on PS1 in 1999. The last numbered sequel identified in the reports is Ape Escape 3, released in 2005. They describe PlayStation Move Ape Escape as the latest series game, with a 2010 release in Japan and a 2011 release in Western markets. The regional dates differ, so 2010 is not the worldwide release year.
Can you play Ape Escape now?
The US PlayStation Store currently lists Ape Escape: On the Loose for PS4 and PS5. The store identifies it as a PSP-origin game and gives March 7, 2025 as the release date for its PS4/PS5 listing. Its description follows Spike using gadgets to stop monkeys from changing history. This is an existing game, not evidence of a new one.
