A reported dispute involving a PS5 Slim bought through Swiggy Instamart centers on the seller named on the invoice, not simply the app used to place the order. One buyer said Sony declined warranty registration because that seller was not an authorized Sony India dealer. That account does not establish a blanket policy for Instamart or other quick-commerce purchases: warranty eligibility should be checked for the specific seller, console and purchase documents.
What happened in the reported Swiggy Instamart case?
Digit reported on October 2, 2026, that a buyer said he bought a sealed 1TB PS5 Slim through Swiggy Instamart. According to the buyer’s account as reported, Sony asked for the invoice, console serial number and warranty card, then declined registration because the invoice seller was not an authorized Sony India dealer. The buyer also said he had contacted the platform and the National Consumer Helpline. Digit’s report describes the correspondence secondhand; the underlying messages and documents were not independently available for review.
TalkEsport reported the same day that the order was placed on September 27, 2026, and identified the invoice seller as PYD Retail Pvt Ltd (Avantika), attributing that detail to another report. The invoice itself was not available for independent confirmation, so treat the seller identification as reported, not verified. The complaint’s outcome has not been established, and the reporting does not show that Sony or Swiggy announced a general policy covering all such orders.

Does a PS5 bought through a quick-commerce app get Sony warranty?
Not automatically—and the app name alone does not answer the question. The relevant details include the legal seller on the invoice, whether the unit is marketed by Sony India, and whether the buyer has the documents Sony requests for service.

PlayStation’s India buying guide advises buying new PlayStation products from authorized retailers to help ensure functionality, authenticity, return policy and warranty coverage. Sony India’s warranty and service information describes its warranty as nontransferable and for the first end user purchasing from a Sony Authorized Dealer. It also says to produce the warranty card and original purchase invoice when handing over a product for in-warranty repair. Its FAQ says Sony India warranty is issued only on products marketed by Sony India and recommends buying from an authorized Sony dealer in India.
These are general Sony consumer-warranty terms, not a published ruling about every PS5 sold by a quick-commerce service. Sony India’s PlayStation FAQ search listing states that consoles have a one-year standard warranty from the purchase date; a current ShopAtSC PS5 Digital Edition listing also specifies a one-year manufacturer warranty. The ShopAtSC page covers a CFI-2116 slim model group and does not establish terms for every PS5 model or seller. Ask Sony to confirm eligibility for the exact unit and invoice seller rather than assuming that the published duration settles coverage.

What to check before ordering
- Find the legal seller. Check the product listing and checkout details for the seller’s name; the app or marketplace brand may not be the seller shown on your invoice.
- Ask about authorization in writing. Ask whether that seller is an authorized Sony India dealer, and retain the response. Prefer an authorized retailer if manufacturer warranty coverage is important, as PlayStation recommends.
- Check the exact unit’s terms. Confirm whether the product is marketed for Sony India, what warranty is stated for the model, and what return or replacement window applies.
- Confirm paperwork availability. Check that you will receive an original invoice and warranty card, and ask how the console serial number will be documented or matched.
What to do when the console arrives
- Save the order record and listing. Keep the product page, checkout seller details, order confirmation and any written warranty assurances.
- Keep the original documents. Retain the invoice and warranty card. Sony’s service information says both are required for an in-warranty service handover.
- Match the product details. Check that the console identity and serial number can be matched to your purchase paperwork.
- Confirm coverage promptly. Contact Sony with the exact model, serial number and invoice seller while the seller or platform return window is still open. This is a precaution, not a guarantee that Sony will approve coverage.
If Sony declines a warranty claim
- Ask Sony for the reason and the applicable warranty term in writing.
- Preserve the invoice, warranty card, product listing, seller details and support messages.
- Contact the invoice seller and the platform through their return or resolution process while those options remain available.
- If you pursue a consumer complaint, keep records of the steps taken and the responses received. In the reported case, the buyer said he contacted the National Consumer Helpline; no complaint record or resolution was independently established in the reporting.
PlayStation’s India guarantee page for repaired or replaced products says Sony may refuse repair or replacement under that guarantee if it cannot validate warranty status and the customer cannot provide acceptable proof of purchase for the original system. That page concerns products that have already been repaired or replaced; it is not a substitute for the full terms governing an original console.

Compare the purchase route, not just the app
Because sellers and units can vary, a blanket claim that all marketplace or quick-commerce PS5 purchases qualify—or do not qualify—for Sony India warranty is not supported by the published guidance or this single reported dispute. Compare the specific offer against the points below.
