The Sony K-65XR70 is a 65-inch-class 2024 Mini LED 4K LCD TV with local dimming, a 120 Hz panel, Dolby Vision, and key current-console gaming features. Independent coverage praises the BRAVIA 7’s color, contrast, motion, and backlight control, but also flags limited viewing angles and the lack of HDR10+. Those review observations came from a 55-inch sample, not a tested 65-inch K-65XR70, so treat them as series-level guidance rather than a direct verdict on this exact size.

What the Sony K-65XR70 is

The K-65XR70 is the 65-inch-class member of Sony’s 2024 BRAVIA 7 range. It is an LCD television with Mini LED backlighting and QLED color, not an OLED. Sony lists a 64.5-inch measured diagonal, 3840 × 2160 resolution, local dimming, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Its supported HDR formats are Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG; HDR10+ is not listed. Sony’s K-65XR70 specifications provide the model-specific figures.

Sony describes the set as using thousands of Mini LEDs controlled by XR Backlight Master Drive, QLED color with XR Triluminos Pro, and an XR Processor. These are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent measurements of this 65-inch model’s brightness or contrast.

How it looks for films and HDR

What Hi-Fi?’s coverage identifies color, contrast, backlight control, motion handling, and upscaling as BRAVIA 7 strengths. Its overall assessment is encouraging for film watching, particularly if you watch from a central seat and want an LCD set with local dimming. However, its summarized review tested the 55-inch model, not the K-65XR70. The findings are useful as series-level evidence, not as a direct measurement of this 65-inch television. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 65-inch TV roundup describes the review-unit qualification.

Format support matters when choosing HDR sources. Sony lists Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG, but not HDR10+. If HDR10+ support is a requirement, this is not the right match based on the available specifications. The available sources do not establish a measured peak brightness, black-level result, or blooming performance for a 65-inch sample, so avoid treating Mini LED branding or zone counts as a substitute for those measurements.

Gaming features and HDMI limits

Sony lists 4K120, variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low latency mode (ALLM), eARC, and SBTM among the set’s HDMI 2.1-related features. The 120 Hz panel and support for 4K120, VRR, and ALLM make it suitable on paper for current high-frame-rate console gaming. Sony also lists PS5 Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode.

Port count is the main practical qualification. The television has four HDMI inputs, but What Hi-Fi?’s comparison reports that only two provide the full HDMI 2.1 gaming feature set, including 48 Gbps bandwidth. If you plan to connect several high-bandwidth sources—such as two consoles and a gaming PC—check which ports support the features you need and account for the limited number before buying. Sony lists eARC as well, so leave the designated eARC connection available if you use a compatible soundbar. What Hi-Fi?’s BRAVIA 7 vs BRAVIA 5 comparison is dated February 16, 2026.

Bright rooms, viewing angles, and sound

Mini LED backlighting and local dimming are relevant advantages to consider for a brighter room, but the available evidence does not provide a measured brightness result for the K-65XR70. What Hi-Fi? flags limited effective viewing angles in its BRAVIA 7 review, which was based on a 55-inch sample. For a wide sofa or seating spread across the room, view the set from those seats before deciding; do not assume the picture will look equally consistent off-axis.

What Hi-Fi? also describes the BRAVIA 7’s sound positively, but that judgment is from its 55-inch review unit. Audio needs and room acoustics vary, so it is not evidence that the TV replaces a separate sound system. A soundbar can be considered as an optional addition; connect a compatible one to the eARC input.

BRAVIA 7 vs BRAVIA 5

What Hi-Fi?’s February 2026 comparison positions the BRAVIA 7 as the more refined option, with stronger contrast consistency and backlight control, and the BRAVIA 5 as a less expensive alternative. It reports these dimming-zone counts for the 65-inch models:

Model Reported dimming zones How the comparison characterizes it
65-inch BRAVIA 7 480, reported by What Hi-Fi? in its February 2026 comparison More refined; stronger contrast consistency and backlight control
65-inch BRAVIA 5 240, reported by What Hi-Fi? in its February 2026 comparison Less expensive alternative

The zone figures are What Hi-Fi?’s reported specifications, not figures listed in the Sony specification page cited here. What Hi-Fi? says its testing was of a 55-inch BRAVIA 7, so its comparative observations are not a controlled head-to-head test of the two 65-inch models. Its cited price comparisons are date-specific and should not be read as current offers.

BRAVIA 7 Mini LED vs OLED

The K-65XR70 is an LCD TV with Mini LED backlighting and local dimming; OLED uses self-emissive pixels that can control light at the pixel level. That is a meaningful technology difference, but the available sources do not provide a controlled 65-inch head-to-head test. When comparing a BRAVIA 7 with an OLED, consider viewing angle, reflections, HDR formats, console ports, audio plans, installation fit, warranty, condition, and current price—not just the backlight type or a single zone-count figure.

  • VESA hole pattern: 300 × 300 mm.
  • With stand: 57 × 33.75 × 13.63 inches.
  • Stand positions: standard and soundbar positions; Sony lists narrow and wide stand widths of 19 inches and 48 inches, respectively.

For wall mounting, select a compatible 300 × 300 mm VESA mount whose load rating exceeds the TV’s 59.7 lb standless weight. Confirm that the wall structure and fasteners are suitable for the combined load. For a cabinet installation, check the stand footprint, depth, and the chosen stand position against the available space. These figures are from Sony’s official specifications.

Smart TV, connectivity, and everyday use

The K-65XR70 is a Google TV model. What Hi-Fi?’s guide cites broad Google TV app coverage, and Sony lists Apple AirPlay, HomeKit, and Bluetooth 5.3. These features are useful if you already use Apple devices or Bluetooth accessories, though the set’s suitability still depends on the apps and services you personally need.

Price and availability

Sony’s current product page labels the K-65XR70 “Item no longer available.” The same page displays $1,199.99 against a crossed-out $1,699.99, while its FAQ separately gives an MSRP of $1,599.99. Because those references conflict and are not a verified live transaction price, they do not establish what the TV currently costs or whether it is in stock. Check retailer listings for current availability, price, condition, and warranty before purchasing. Sony’s product page and FAQ contain the page status and price references.

Who should consider the K-65XR70?

  • Consider it if you want a 65-inch-class 4K LCD with Mini LED local dimming, a 120 Hz panel, Dolby Vision, and 4K120/VRR/ALLM support.
  • Check carefully if you sit far off-center, need HDR10+, or have more than two devices that require the full HDMI 2.1 gaming feature set.
  • Compare alternatives if an OLED’s pixel-level light control better fits your viewing priorities, or if the BRAVIA 5’s lower-cost positioning matters more than the BRAVIA 7’s reported refinement.
  • Verify fit and terms before buying: the set weighs 59.7 lb without its stand, uses a 300 × 300 mm VESA pattern, and Sony marks its own product page unavailable.
