The Sony K-55S20M2 is a 55-inch-class 4K Google TV with a useful mix of streaming and smart-home features, but its 60 Hz panel and weak measured-family performance in contrast and HDR brightness limit its appeal for serious movie watching and high-refresh gaming. It is a more plausible choice for everyday streaming in a moderately lit room than for a dark theater-like space or a bright room. The performance assessment comes from RTINGS’ review of the 75-inch BRAVIA 2 II; RTINGS says its findings apply to the 55-inch model, but it did not directly test this size.

What is the Sony K-55S20M2?

The K-55S20M2 is the 55-inch-class, 2025 Sony BRAVIA 2 II. Sony lists the screen’s diagonal measurement as 54.6 inches. It is a 4K LCD television with a Direct LED backlight, frame dimming, and a native 60 Hz refresh rate—not a high-refresh display. Sony’s exact-model specifications describe the U.S. model; specifications and availability can differ in other markets.

How good is its picture quality?

RTINGS’ October 22, 2025 review reports weak contrast and poor dark-room picture quality for the BRAVIA 2 II, with no local dimming to improve dark scenes. In its assessment, blacks look raised and gray. It also describes SDR brightness as adequate for a room with a couple of overhead lights, but not a bright room, and HDR brightness as poor. These are qualitative findings, not a set of brightness or contrast measurements quoted here.

There is an important size caveat: RTINGS tested the 75-inch version, not the K-55S20M2. Its review says the results should apply to the 43-, 50-, 55-, and 65-inch versions. Treat the findings as evidence about the model family rather than a direct lab measurement of this 55-inch unit. RTINGS’ review page records a test-bench update of September 18, 2026, and methodology version 2.2.1. Read RTINGS’ BRAVIA 2 II review.

Sony lists HDR10 and HLG compatibility, along with its 4K Processor X1, 4K X-Reality PRO, Live Color, and Dynamic Contrast Enhancer. Those are listed features, not evidence that HDR will look bright or that dark scenes will have deep blacks. Sony does not list Dolby Vision for this model.

Is the Sony K-55S20M2 good for gaming?

It has basic console conveniences, not the feature set of a high-refresh gaming TV. Sony lists Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) on all four HDMI inputs, but does not list Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). The native panel is 60 Hz, so it cannot display 120 Hz or higher content. RTINGS also says the model lacks HDMI 2.1 bandwidth; Sony’s reference to HDMI 2.1 features names eARC and ALLM, not full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 gaming support.

That makes the set more suitable for casual console play than for players seeking high frame rates, VRR, or the strongest motion performance. RTINGS notes motion interpolation and black frame insertion among its features, but those do not change the panel’s native refresh rate.

What smart TV features and connections does it include?

Google TV is the main attraction beyond the screen itself. The set includes Google Play Store access, Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay, Apple HomeKit, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. Sony lists 16 GB of onboard storage. Its product page also describes five Sony Pictures Core credits and 12 months of unlimited streaming of top movies; check the page and offer terms for current eligibility and regional availability.

For wired devices and audio, Sony lists four HDMI inputs, two USB ports, Ethernet, an optical digital audio output, and eARC/ARC. The TV’s built-in audio is a 20 W, two-channel system, with two full-range bass-reflex speakers rated at 10 W each. Dolby Audio, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X format support are listed, but format compatibility is not the same as having a dedicated surround system.

What are the dimensions and mounting requirements?

The K-55S20M2 uses a 300 × 300 mm VESA mounting pattern. Before mounting it, check that the bracket supports that pattern and has an adequate load rating. Confirm the furniture or wall space using Sony’s listed dimensions:

Is the 55-inch Sony BRAVIA 2 II worth buying?

It is a reasonable candidate if your priorities are Google TV, a broad range of casting and smart-home options, four HDMI inputs, and everyday viewing in a moderately lit room. The case is weaker if you watch films in a dark room, need strong HDR impact in a bright space, or want 120 Hz gaming and VRR.

Sony’s U.S. product page displayed $599.99 for the 55-inch model and a $100 instant soundbar bundle saving when the information was collected. These are time-sensitive offers, not guaranteed current prices. Check the Sony product page for the current price, stock, shipping, and bundle terms before buying.

Should you adjust the picture settings?

RTINGS publishes settings guidance for the 75-inch model and says it is valid for the 55-inch sibling. Use it as a starting point rather than a guarantee of identical results: room lighting, content, and individual preference affect the best settings. See RTINGS’ BRAVIA 2 II calibration settings.
