There is no universal winner between Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA 8 II QD-OLED and LG’s 2025 G5 OLED evo. Choose by the exact size and price available where you live, the room the TV will be used in, and whether films, gaming or screen size matters most. The BRAVIA 8 II merits a close look if you want Sony’s picture-processing approach in a 55- or 65-inch set; the G5 is a strong alternative if its feature mix, available size or current local deal suits you better.

What is the main difference between the BRAVIA 8 II and LG G5?

They are premium 2025 OLED televisions built around different panel technologies: Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II is QD-OLED, while LG’s G5 is WOLED. That distinction can influence how color and HDR look, but the panel label alone does not establish which image you will prefer. Processing, picture settings, content and room conditions also matter.

For Sony, the clearest case in the available review coverage is picture quality and Sony processing. A TechRadar review lists the BRAVIA 8 II in 55- and 65-inch sizes and gives historical US prices after reductions in June 2025; those figures are not current price guidance. Read the TechRadar BRAVIA 8 II review.

LG’s US product page identifies the OLED evo AI G5 as a 2025 4K smart TV and lists a 77-inch-class model, OLED77G5WUA. Its page title notes a supplied wall mount. Check the exact regional model and what is included for the size you plan to buy. See LG’s US G5 product page.

Which one suits your room?

Think about the TV’s position before choosing a panel. Will it face windows, or sit in a room with strong ambient light? Compare the exact sets in the lighting where you watch, and consider how reflections affect your viewing position. The available sources do not establish a tested bright-room or reflection winner for this exact pair, so avoid treating either model’s panel type as a guarantee.

If you mostly watch in a controlled-light room, compare the image presentation with the films and shows you enjoy. If the room is bright, give window placement and reflected light particular attention when checking each model in person or reviewing reliable testing for the exact models.

How should you compare picture quality?

HDR and color

QD-OLED and WOLED are different approaches to OLED display technology, but that fact does not settle which television produces the more appealing HDR image for you. Look at real content you recognize, and compare the picture modes you expect to use. No precise head-to-head brightness or color result for the BRAVIA 8 II versus G5 is established by the cited material.

Movies, streaming and processing

Review coverage specifically praises the BRAVIA 8 II’s picture quality and highlights Sony processing. That makes it a sensible shortlist choice if Sony’s image presentation is what you want, but it is a viewing preference rather than proof of measured superiority over the G5. Check both sets with the type of content you watch most.

Which TV is better for gaming?

Do not decide from a broad model-family comparison alone. The surfaced RTINGS comparison labels the BRAVIA 8 II QD-OLED at 120 Hz and the G5 with higher refresh-rate support, but its G5 comparison is paired with the original BRAVIA 8—not the BRAVIA 8 II. It is not a direct gaming test of this exact pair. See the RTINGS comparison and its model pairing.

Before buying, confirm the native refresh rate and HDMI input capabilities for the precise regional SKU, plus VRR support if you need it. Match those details to your console or PC and the games you play. The available evidence does not establish a full head-to-head verdict for input lag, VRR performance or gaming features.

What sizes and prices should you compare?

Start with the size you can actually buy locally, then compare like for like. BRAVIA 8 II review coverage lists 55- and 65-inch models. LG’s US page confirms a 77-inch-class G5 SKU; the available evidence does not establish the full G5 size range across regions. Check current local availability rather than assuming every size is sold in your market.

TechRadar reported US BRAVIA 8 II prices of $3,299 for 55 inches and $2,999 for 65 inches after reductions in June 2025. These are a dated price snapshot, not current offers. A separate 2025 comparison discusses the G5 and BRAVIA 8 II as flagship OLED competitors and provides historical launch-price context, not today’s street prices. See the 2025 Tom’s Guide comparison.

Check today’s price for the exact size and model number in your region. Add delivery, any stand or wall-mount requirements, and warranty coverage to the comparison: a lower advertised set price may not mean a lower total cost if you need separate mounting hardware or installation.

Which OLED TV should you buy?

Choose the Sony BRAVIA 8 II if

  • You want a 55- or 65-inch TV and Sony’s picture-processing character appeals to you.
  • Films and streaming are central to how you use the TV, and you prefer the BRAVIA 8 II’s presentation when comparing the two.

Choose the LG G5 if

  • The G5’s available size, feature mix or current price in your market better matches your needs.
  • You want to assess LG’s WOLED option against Sony’s QD-OLED rather than selecting by brand or panel label alone.

A 2026 What Hi-Fi? guide favors the BRAVIA 8 II overall while noting that the G5 is more aggressive in some areas. That is an editorial verdict, not a substitute for checking your priorities, local availability and the exact model you will buy. See What Hi-Fi?’s OLED TV guide.
