The Sony BRAVIA 8 II K-65XR80M2 is a 65-inch-class QD-OLED TV built around excellent contrast, rich color and Sony’s picture processing, with an unusually capable integrated sound system. It is a strong choice for film and TV viewers who value image quality and sound, but it is not an automatic pick for bright rooms or gaming-focused setups: independent testing found modest SDR brightness and 16.3 ms input latency, and the TV has only two HDMI 2.1 inputs according to reviewers.

What the Sony K-65XR80M2 is

Sony identifies the K-65XR80M2 as the 2025 BRAVIA 8 II, also called XR80. It is a 65-inch-class QD-OLED television with a measured 64.5-inch diagonal, 4K HDR resolution and Google TV. Sony lists its XR Processor and Acoustic Surface Audio+, which uses two actuators and two subwoofers. Sony’s specifications and product page describe the official features; independent review results below are separate measurements, not Sony guarantees.

How good is the picture?

Contrast, color and processing

QD-OLED is a good fit for viewers who want OLED-style dark-scene contrast alongside vivid color. TechRadar found the picture detailed and colorful and reported that the panel is brighter than the earlier BRAVIA 8, while still trailing some flagship OLED competitors in brightness and feature breadth (TechRadar’s review). Tom’s Guide likewise praised contrast, color volume and off-axis viewing (Tom’s Guide’s review).

What independent brightness and color tests show

Tom’s Guide measured 1,633 nits HDR brightness and 270 nits SDR brightness, each on a 10% window, and reported 100% UHDA-P3 coverage and 90.55% Rec. 2020 coverage. These figures come from that publication’s test protocol, which used a Jeti spectroradiometer, Klein colorimeter, Murideo pattern generator, Calman software and Leo Bodnar input-lag tester; they are not guaranteed results for every setting, sample or viewing environment. The retrieved review excerpt does not state its publication or test date.

The practical concern is daylight. The HDR result demonstrates substantial brightness in a limited highlight area, but the much lower SDR 10% result is a warning for buyers who watch mostly SDR content in a sunlit room. Consider your room’s windows, viewing hours and ability to control reflections rather than treating a single HDR peak figure as a measure of all-day brightness.

Is it good for gaming?

Sony lists 4K/120, eARC, VRR and ALLM among the TV’s HDMI 2.1 features, and specifically lists VRR for HDMI inputs 3 and 4. Sony also advertises PS5 Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. However, TechRadar’s and Tom’s Guide’s review specifications identify two HDMI 2.1 inputs, so a setup with several high-bandwidth consoles or a gaming PC may require an HDMI switch or choosing which devices connect directly. Verify port-specific behavior and format support in the Sony manual before planning a multi-device setup.

Tom’s Guide measured 16.3 ms input latency using its Leo Bodnar tester. That is useful context for casual and many console players, but it was weaker than several competing 2025 OLEDs in that review’s comparisons. The TV’s 120 Hz ceiling is also worth noting if you specifically want a display above 120 Hz. It supports major console-friendly features, but competitive players prioritizing the lowest latency or PC gamers seeking higher refresh rates should compare alternatives before buying.

How good is the built-in audio?

Acoustic Surface Audio+ uses the screen itself as part of the sound output, with Sony listing two actuators and two subwoofers. Tom’s Guide praised the integrated audio, making this set more compelling for viewers who prefer not to add a soundbar immediately. If you want a separate system, Sony lists eARC and Acoustic Center Sync; check the TV and soundbar manuals for the exact connection and compatibility details. A soundbar is optional, not a prerequisite for using the TV.

Ports, smart features and setup

Connectivity and formats

Sony lists four HDMI inputs and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10. Its product page also lists AirPlay 2, HomeKit and Google Cast. The product specifications identify 4K/120, eARC, VRR and ALLM features, but port assignments matter: confirm the formats and capabilities for the particular HDMI input you plan to use in Sony’s manual rather than assuming every port supports every feature.

Dimensions and wall mounting

Without the stand, the TV measures 56.81 × 32.68 × 1.34 inches and weighs 50 lb 7.8 oz. Sony lists a 300 × 300 mm VESA mounting pattern. Check that a wall mount supports that pattern and exceeds the TV’s weight rating; also measure the installation area and account for access to cables and ports before mounting. The dimensions and weight are from Sony’s specification page.

BRAVIA 8 II vs. Samsung S95F and LG G5

Both Tom’s Guide and TechRadar compare the BRAVIA 8 II with the Samsung S95F and LG G5, but the available evidence does not establish a current, like-for-like price comparison. The most useful decision is based on your room, gaming setup and priorities rather than assuming a universal winner.

Price and value

At retrieval, Sony’s US product page displayed $2,499.99, discounted from a displayed $3,299.99 MSRP. That is a time-sensitive US listing snapshot, not a current-price guarantee; promotions, stock and delivery can change. Tom’s Guide’s and TechRadar’s review pricing reflects their own publication and update contexts, so it should not be treated as a live checkout comparison. Check the seller’s current listing before deciding whether the premium is justified for your needs.

Who should buy the Sony BRAVIA 8 II?

  • Consider it if you prioritize OLED contrast, rich color, Sony image processing and a better-than-basic built-in audio system.
  • Compare alternatives first if you watch mostly SDR in a bright room, want especially low gaming latency, need more than two high-bandwidth HDMI connections, or are seeking a refresh rate above 120 Hz.
  • Plan the setup around your devices: use Sony’s manual to verify the specific input for VRR, 4K/120 and eARC, and check mount compatibility if wall mounting.
