For standard 4K at 24–60 frames per second, Sony’s tables list HDMI 1–4 on the covered recent BRAVIA model groups. For 4K at 100 or 120 frames per second, use HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 only when your exact TV model supports those modes. The right port depends on the model and signal, so check Sony’s table for your TV’s complete model number before connecting.
Why the 4K signal matters
“4K” does not identify one single signal mode. Standard 4K at 24p–60p and higher-frame-rate 4K at 100p or 120p can have different port requirements. A port that works for a 4K movie or 60Hz game may not support a 4K120 signal.
Sony’s support table lists 4K 24p, 25p, 30p, 50p, and 60p on HDMI 1–4 for its covered 2023, 2024, and 2025 model groups. For compatible models, 4K 100p/120p is generally assigned to HDMI 3 and HDMI 4. The table also identifies models without 4K120 support, so do not treat those port recommendations as universal across all BRAVIA TVs or regions. Check Sony’s HDMI terminal support table for the exact series and signal. Sony’s list of models supporting HDMI 2.1 features can also help establish whether a model supports 4K120.

How to find the right port for your BRAVIA
- Find the complete TV model number. Check the product label or the TV’s system information; the series name alone may not identify its port capabilities.
- Look up that model in Sony’s HDMI terminal table. Match the row to the signal you need—4K 24p–60p or 4K 100p/120p—and note the listed port or ports.
- Connect the source to a supported input. For a compatible 4K120 model, Sony commonly specifies HDMI 3 or HDMI 4, but follow the model-specific table.
- Set the input’s HDMI signal format. Open the TV’s HDMI signal format setting for the connected input and select the applicable Enhanced format option. Menu paths and option names vary by model. Use the label Sony documents for your TV and source rather than choosing a Dolby Vision, VRR, 4K120, or Advanced option by guesswork. See Sony’s 4K 120Hz setup directions.
- Use a cable rated for the signal. Sony specifies Premium High-Speed HDMI for the cited 18Gbps Enhanced format 4K mode, and Ultra High-Speed HDMI for some signals at 18Gbps or above. Follow the cable guidance for your model and signal; a cable cannot make an unsupported TV port handle 4K120.
If the 4K picture does not appear correctly
- Confirm that the TV input is the port specified for your model and signal mode.
- Check that the input’s HDMI signal format is set to the appropriate Enhanced format option for that TV.
- Verify that the connected device is configured to output the resolution and frame rate you selected.
- Check the cable class against Sony’s guidance for the signal. Sony’s 4K picture troubleshooting guidance explains model-dependent port, signal-format, and cable requirements.
- If the issue remains, follow troubleshooting instructions for the exact BRAVIA model; older and 8K series can use different port arrangements or settings.
