If you’re choosing between Sonos Ace and Sony WH-1000XM6, the better buy depends on what you value—not simply which one is on sale. Sony is the stronger pick if clear calls in noisy places matter most; Sonos Ace is appealing for comfort and for owners of a compatible Sonos soundbar. A reported UK Big Deal Days price for the Sony was £319, down from £399, but that October 6, 2026 offer does not establish today’s price or the Ace’s sale price.
Which headphones make more sense for you?
Choose the Sony WH-1000XM6 if you prioritize microphone performance for calls in noisy environments. Choose Sonos Ace if comfort is your leading concern or you want to send sound from a compatible Sonos soundbar to your headphones. RTINGS found the two broadly comparable for noise isolation and battery life, but its findings are reviewer assessments rather than guarantees for every listener.
The comparison is specifically with Sony WH-1000XM6. The headline’s reference to a “pair of Sonys” does not identify a model on its own; this model is used here because it is the one named in the direct comparison material.

Battery figures are manufacturers’ stated maximums, not independent test results. Sony’s official US support specifications list the WH-1000XM6 as an over-ear model with multipoint and an adaptive noise-cancelling optimizer. Sony’s product page also describes a QN3 noise-cancelling processor and an adaptive 12-microphone system. Sony WH-1000XM6 specifications · Sony WH-1000XM6 product page

What do you gain by paying for the Sony?
Clearer calls in noisy places
RTINGS’ 2026 comparison gives Sony the edge for microphone clarity in noisy settings. If you often take calls on a busy street or in a crowded space, that finding supports paying more for the Sony—provided the price difference in your market is acceptable. It does not establish that Sony will sound better in every room or for every caller.

More stated playback time with noise cancelling off
Sony lists up to 40 hours of music playback with noise cancelling off, compared with up to 30 hours with it on. Sonos lists up to 30 hours of Ace listening with ANC or Aware mode enabled; the cited Sonos page does not state a corresponding listening figure with those modes off. These maximums use different manufacturer specifications, so they should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head battery test.

Sony describes the WH-1000XM6 as using its QN3 processor and adaptive 12-microphone system. Its official specifications also list an adaptive noise-cancelling optimizer. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the product, not proof that its noise isolation is better than Ace in real-world use; RTINGS describes the two as broadly comparable for noise isolation.

Why choose Sonos Ace instead?
Comfort
RTINGS characterizes Ace as more comfortable than the WH-1000XM6. Fit is personal, so try both if possible, especially if you expect to wear headphones for long stretches.
Audio from a compatible Sonos soundbar
Ace can receive audio from a compatible Sonos soundbar, and Sonos describes sending that audio to one or two Ace headphones using the Content Key. RTINGS notes that the transfer requires an iOS device and may have quirks, so do not treat the feature as a frictionless option for every household or phone setup.

Bluetooth multipoint and equalizer trade-offs
Sonos says Ace supports Bluetooth multipoint after registration in the Sonos app. RTINGS notes that Ace lacks a graphic equalizer. Consider whether you need to switch between Bluetooth devices or want detailed EQ controls before deciding which feature set better suits you.

Before buying, compare the prices actually available to you and check the sale end date, retailer, and return policy. A sale changes the value calculation, not the headphones’ relative strengths: choose Sony for the call-performance advantage identified by RTINGS, or Ace if its comfort and Sonos soundbar integration matter more to you.
