Sonos Ace Ultra’s strongest reason to buy it is Headphone Linking: it can connect directly to a Sonos system, making the headphones more useful to people who already own compatible Sonos equipment. Sonos also advertises Adaptive ANC, fit-aware Adaptive EQ and up to 35 hours of battery life with ANC on. At a reported U.S. MSRP of $449, the case is compelling for Sonos households—but the available reviews do not establish a controlled ANC advantage or prove that the seal works equally well for every wearer.
What is new about Sonos Ace Ultra?
Sonos announced Ace Ultra in September 2026 as premium wireless over-ear headphones. The company specifies a Sonos-designed 40 mm driver and ten microphones that power Adaptive ANC. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Sonos also lists up to 35 hours of battery life with ANC enabled. Sonos’s U.S. product page describes the headphones as offering a direct connection to a Sonos system.
The defining addition is Headphone Linking, enabled by Sonos Headphone Engine 2. Sonos’s launch announcement described the feature as available in Early Access, so availability may depend on the current software and compatible Sonos products. How does Headphone Linking affect the buying decision?
Headphone Linking is the most distinctive part of the proposition: rather than treating Ace Ultra only as a Bluetooth headphone, Sonos intends it to connect directly to its system. That could matter if you want private listening through compatible Sonos equipment. Its value is much lower if you do not own Sonos products or do not expect to use the system connection.
#1 Best Overall
- HEADPHONES | Featuring Dolby Atmos.
- SPATIAL AUDIO | Enjoy an industry-leading Dolby Atmos experience with dynamic head tracking.
- LOSSLESS AUDIO | Stream lossless audio over Bluetooth or via USB-C.
- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION | World-class ANC neutralizes external sounds for maximum immersion.
- ALL-DAY COMFORT | Bespoke fit with plush memory foam, soft vegan leather, and a design that suits all head shapes, hairstyles, and accessories.
The feature’s Early Access status is an important qualification, not a guarantee that every Sonos owner can use it immediately. Compatibility, software requirements, setup and availability can change. Confirm those details for your particular system before treating Headphone Linking as a purchase-ready feature.
Does the ear-cup seal make ANC better?
Sonos says Adaptive EQ measures the seal and fit of each ear cup, then adjusts the sound in real time. The idea is sensible: how an ear cup sits can affect what you hear, and the headphones are designed to account for that fit when tuning audio. But this feature description is not proof of a specific ANC improvement, nor does it show that every wearer will get the same seal.

- LOSSLESS AUDIO SUPPORT: USB-C lossless audio and sound profiles optimize music quality across devices and environments. Additional option to use the 3.5 mm cable for a standard analog experience.

Tom’s Guide’s reviewer described the memory-foam cushions as soft and noted a sealing fit. That is a useful individual impression, not a universal comfort result. The available review evidence does not establish how the seal performs across different head shapes, hairstyles or glasses, so try them on if fit is a decisive concern. TechRadar and Tom’s Guide characterize Ace Ultra as a substantial improvement over the first Sonos Ace in areas that include ANC. Those are reviewers’ qualitative judgments. The available sources do not provide a shared testing protocol or comparable numerical ANC results, so there is no sound basis here for claiming a particular percentage improvement or that Ace Ultra outperforms another premium headphone in controlled testing. The ten-microphone specification describes the hardware Sonos uses for Adaptive ANC; it does not, on its own, establish cancellation strength. The seal feature may influence the listening experience, but Sonos’s description does not quantify an ANC gain from fit detection.

- More persuasive at this price: You own compatible Sonos equipment and expect to use Headphone Linking, while also valuing premium wireless noise cancellation and the fit-aware EQ feature.
- Harder to justify: You would mainly use the headphones as ordinary Bluetooth over-ears, want proven numerical ANC comparisons, or need confidence about fit with glasses. The available evidence does not settle those questions.
TechRadar also describes improvements to calls, battery life, EQ and smart features, including Headphone Linking. Treat these as the reviewer’s assessment rather than measured outcomes guaranteed for every user. TechRadar’s review
Verdict
Sonos Ace Ultra makes its clearest case for Sonos owners who will use Headphone Linking. Adaptive ANC, fit-aware EQ and the company’s stated 35-hour ANC-on battery life round out a premium feature set, while reviewer impressions are positive about improvements over the first Ace. But the $449 reported U.S. MSRP is difficult to justify on ANC claims alone: controlled, directly comparable results and broader evidence about fit are not established. Buy for the ecosystem feature if it is confirmed compatible and useful to you; regard the ANC and seal improvements as promising, not proven for every listener.
