Sonos Ace Ultra is a credible premium noise-canceling headphone and a substantial step up from the original Sonos Ace, according to current reviews. But the evidence available does not prove it beats Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) in a direct, controlled comparison. At $449 in the US listing, the Ultra’s strongest case is its combination of improved sound and ANC with Sonos system features—not a proven Bose-defeating ANC result.
What is new about Sonos Ace Ultra?
Ace Ultra is a distinct 2026 headphone, not a new name for the original Ace. Sonos lists it at $449 in the US, with Black, Soft White, Agave, and Sand finishes. The package includes a travel case, USB-C-to-USB-C cable, and USB-C-to-3.5 mm cable.
Sonos specifies a Sonos-designed 40 mm driver, Adaptive ANC powered by ten microphones, and up to 35 hours of listening with ANC enabled. The product page also lists Dolby Atmos, dynamic head tracking, spatial and lossless audio, Adaptive EQ, Aware mode, and Bluetooth. Sonos says three minutes of charging can provide up to three hours of playback. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Sonos Ace Ultra product page
Sonos also claims “up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.” That is a Sonos comparison claim; it should not be read as a standardized measurement or as proof of a twofold advantage over Bose.
#1 Best Overall
- Sonos-designed driver for deep, rich, detailed sound.
- High-resolution wireless audio with ultra-low latency.
- Up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.
- Up to 35 hours of battery with ANC on.
- Adaptive EQ tunes the sound based on your fit and movement.
How does it compare with Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)?
The comparison is promising, but not settled by a same-test head-to-head. Tom’s Guide’s September 22, 2026 review describes strong ANC and improved call performance, while TechRadar reports a meaningful improvement over the original Ace. Separately, Tom’s Guide’s 2026 ANC roundup names Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2 its best overall pick. That roundup is useful context, but it is not a direct Ace Ultra-versus-Bose test.
So the defensible verdict is that Ace Ultra is now a credible flagship rival, not that it has been shown to outperform Bose. The previous comparison between the original Ace and first-generation Bose QuietComfort Ultra found the older Sonos model behind in ANC and sound; that result should not be transferred to this different generation. Noise cancellation
Sonos’s ten-microphone Adaptive ANC is a substantial headline specification, and Tom’s Guide reports strong performance. However, the sources do not establish how it performs against Bose’s current model under matched travel, speech, and changing-noise conditions. If ANC performance is your deciding factor, Bose remains a well-supported choice in Tom’s Guide’s current roundup; Ace Ultra is a serious alternative, not a demonstrated winner.

TechRadar’s listening comparison describes Ace Ultra as more open, detailed, and balanced than the original Ace, while also saying some rivals still edge it for sound quality. Its review highlights movie listening and Sonos integration as particular strengths. These are the publication’s review impressions rather than measurements or a direct Bose comparison. Comfort, calls, and battery
Tom’s Guide reports comfortable wear, improved call performance, and up to 35 hours of battery life; it lists the headphones at 322 g. Those are its review findings and reported specifications, not a comparative fit or battery test against Bose. Consider fit especially carefully if you plan long listening sessions, since a published weight alone cannot predict comfort for every listener.
Sonos integration may be the deciding advantage
Ace Ultra is the first headphone built on Sonos Headphone Engine 2. Sonos says it can link directly with the Sonos system without a phone in range, and describes Headphone Linking as an Early Access feature. That can make the product more compelling for someone who already owns compatible Sonos equipment, particularly for moving from a soundbar listening experience to headphones. Check the current Sonos product page for the feature’s availability and supported devices before buying; Early Access status and compatibility can change. Sonos newsroom

- ALL-DAY COMFORT | Bespoke fit with plush memory foam, soft vegan leather, and a design that suits all head shapes, hairstyles, and accessories.
What does $449 buy?
The US Sonos listing showed $449. TechRadar gives launch pricing of $449 / £399 / AU$699, while Tom’s Guide reports $449 / £399 / €449 and September 29, 2026 general availability. Prices, availability, and launch timing vary by market and can change; check the live listing in your region.
Included in the box are the travel case and both USB-C-to-USB-C and USB-C-to-3.5 mm cables, so neither cable is an obvious extra purchase. The combination of wired options, wireless Bluetooth, and Dolby Atmos/head tracking supports more than one listening setup, though the cited sources do not establish a Bose-versus-Sonos codec or wired-audio advantage.

Who should buy Sonos Ace Ultra?
- Choose Ace Ultra if you want a premium over-ear headphone with strong reported ANC, a more refined sound than the original Ace according to reviewers, and Sonos system features that fit your existing setup.
- Consider Bose as well if your top priority is the current ANC category pick: Tom’s Guide’s roundup selects QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2, though that is not a direct comparative test against Ace Ultra.
- Wait or compare in person if comfort, exact ANC performance, or a feature still in Early Access is essential to your decision. The available reviews do not settle a controlled Ace Ultra-versus-Bose result across those factors.
